摘要： A blade scabbard including a safety lock which functions to prevent accidental or inadvertent withdrawal of a blade from a fully inserted position within the scabbard housing. The safety lock operates automatically in response to insertion of a blade into the scabbard and is preferably associated with blade sharpening mechanism which is also responsive to movement of a blade into and out of the scabbard housing. The sharpening mechanism is preferably inactive during blade insertion and active during blade withdrawal. Manually operable release means is provided to enable release of the lock for blade withdrawal purposes, and it is necessary to operate the release means while simultaneously withdrawing the blade from the scabbard. The safety lock is fully released after the blade has been withdrawn a distance from the fully inserted position and operation of the release means can then be terminated without hindering further withdrawal of the blade. Blade restraining means coacts with the blade to prevent withdrawal when the safety lock is fully operative, and that restraining means may be pivotally mounted on the scabbard housing, together with the sharpening mechanism, to be pivoted into and out of the operative position.

A flexible engagement tab is provided on the handle of the knife for engaging with a tab receiving opening provided in a front portion of the sheath. Upon engagement of the tab with such opening, the knife is securely retained in the sheath. Removal of the knife from the sheath is accomplished by depression of the tab through the tab opening of the sheath. Sheath clamping means are also provided on the opposite side of the sheath and include a clamping arm which pivots with respect to the rearward surface of the sheath through means of rotation of a thumbwheel adjustment member. Rotation of the adjustment member allows for the clamping arm to selectively clamp the sheath to an article. A clamping device is provided for a folding knife having a thumbwheel adjustment member.

摘要： A surgical scalpel has a retractable sleeve. An elongated handle with a contoured grip portion is releasably attached to a blade holder securing a surgical blade. The blade holder is secured to the handle by a hook and groove assembly and a male to female connection. The sleeve slides between an extended position and a retracted position on the handle and blade holder. The extended position of the sleeve covers the blade thereby protecting operating room personnel. An arch on the sleeve contacts the hook and disengages the hook out of the groove to facilitate removal of the blade holder.

摘要： A one piece molded sheath for fixed blade knives having a blade portion and a contoured handle portion including a forefinger groove separated from the blade portion by a handle ridge. The sheath of the invention is comprised of a blade-contoured sheath pocket for receiving the blade portion and adjacent handle ridge of such knives. The molded sheath pocket has an elongated back wall, a shorter front wall and a pair of side walls interconnecting the front wall to the back wall. The back wall of the sheath pocket in its upper portion has molded-in belt loops for attaching the sheath to the belt of the wearer. A slot in the upper end of each of the side walls of the sheath pocket permit the forward and rearward flexing of the upper portion of the front wall with respect to the back wall by the handle ridge of such knives during insertion thereof into the sheath pocket and withdrawal thereof from such pocket. An opening in the upper portion of the front wall of the sheath pocket is provided for receiving the handle ridge of the handle portion of such knives upon insertion thereof into the sheath pocket for maintaining the knives within the sheath pocket against accidental dislodgement.

A swivel connection between the two allows limited rotation of the body with respect to the clip when the clip is extended for belt wearing. The body is restricted from rotation when the clip is realigned to an aligned position for inverted wearing as on the chest. The body includes an integral catch on one side of the blade receiving opening and an internal spring on the opposite side for biasing the blade of the knife toward the catch. An auxiliary flexible loop aids in holding the knife or bayonet in the scabbard.

摘要： A safety attachment for a knife has a yoke member adapted to at least partially encircle the body of the knife a short distance behind the blade. A substantially planar guard plate is hingedly attached to the yoke member to freely swing about an axis located at or below the knife body. In a cutting position, the guard plate extends rearwardly from the axis and the blade, skimming the top of the workpiece. Upon contact with a sizable obstruction, the guard plate pivots about the obstruction to a guard position wherein the guard plate forms a solid barrier between the cutting edge of the knife blade and the obstruction, thereby preventing contact between the obstruction and the knife blade.
