Abstract: An apparatus includes a housing, a medicament container and an actuator. The actuator includes a release member and an energy storage member having a first position and a second position. In the first position, the energy storage member has a first potential energy. In the second position the energy storage member has a second potential energy. The energy storage member is configured to convert a portion of the first potential energy into kinetic energy when moved from the first position to the second position to move the medicament container within the housing. The energy storage member has a longitudinal axis offset from a longitudinal axis of the medicament container. The release member is configured to selectively deploy the energy storage member from its first position to its second position.

Abstract: Methods, devices, and systems for laser eye surgery generally make use of a console that interchangeably accepts multiple types of eye treatment cassettes. The cassettes enable one or both of displacement-based or vacuum-based aspiration. The console and the cassette may communicate to establish the functionality of the installed cassette by utilizing a component indigenous to the operation of the cassette. A dual-mode cassette may include a separable holding tank for enabling vacuum-based aspiration. A displacement-based pump may be provided to drain the holding tank while the vacuum system continues to aspirate fluids. A vacuum sensor for controlling the flow of aspirated fluids may have three ports for communicating with a handpiece, a displacement-based pump, a vacuum-based pump, or an irrigation source. The handpiece may be vented during vacuum-based aspiration by opening a vent valve interposed between the handpiece and the vacuum source.

Abstract: An inhaler for holding a canister (2) of medicament. The canister (2) has a mount (26) secured thereto mounting an indication member (41) movable slidably from a first state to a second state. A ratchet arrangement (41a, 42) is provided between the mount (26) and the indication member (41) to make the movement irreversible. The inhaler has a catch (49) for moving the indication member from the first state to the second state on removal of the canister (2) from the inhaler. An electrical switch contact (48) detects the state of the indication member (41), thereby providing an indication of whether the canister (2) has been used before. Abstract: A hemodialysis port comprising a flexible housing member defining one or more ports. Each port has a selectively-permeable septum member disposed thereon to permit medical devices, for example, Huber needles, sheath and/or dilators to be inserted therein. At the interface between the housing and the septum, a spring member is provided to provide an axial force on the septum which seals the puncture created by the aforementioned medical devices. In one exemplary embodiment, the hemodialysis access port of the present invention is comprised of a plurality of ports designed for multiple hemodialysis treatments over the life of the port. Abstract: This invention relates to a drug cartridge assembly for use with a reusable body assembly of a medication delivery pen. The drug cartridge is disposable and is in the form of a single integral unit having a generally tubular barrel. Medication is pre-filled into the drug cartridge and is retained therein by an elastomeric stopper or plunger. The plunger is in sliding fluid-tight engagement with a tubular wall of the barrel. A proximal end of the tubular barrel is configured for interconnecting the drug cartridge with a pen body assembly and a distal end of the tubular barrel is configured to securely but releasably engage a needle cannula assembly.
