摘要: An entire harvested ground fruit load is subjected to a first cleaning process on a cleaning table, which separates the smaller ground fruits, soil, stones, clods, vine stems, grasses and other debris from the larger ground fruits. The fall-through burden from the cleaning table is subsequently subjected to a second separation step using a pintle belt conveyor equipped with at least one spinning shear roller. Soil particles, stones, clods, vine stems, grasses and other debris fall between the pintles of the pintle belt conveyor and are discarded, while small ground fruits are moved by the spinning shear roller(s) and either recombined with the main ground fruit load or diverted to a separate path for storage. Operational speed of the pintle belt conveyor and rotational speed of the shear rollers can be adjusted to maximize the breakup of clods which impact the shear roller(s).

摘要: A root crop harvester comprises means for picking up a mixture of roots, dirt and debris from the surface of a cultivated field and conveying the mixture upwardly and rearwardly along the harvester. The mixture is cleaned of small articles of dirt and debris by apertures along the conveyor means, ribbed rollers and the like. The partially cleaned mixture is passed to sorting conveyors which counterrotate to convey approximately one-half (1/2) of the mixture towards each side of the harvester. Sources of light are positioned to transmit light along the terminal ends of the sorting conveyors and a plurality of light sensors are positioned to receive light reflected from objects located at the terminal ends of the sorting conveyors. The reflected light is processed to generate root signals and dirt/debris signals. Rejecting fingers respond to the root signals to pass roots to a root crop conveyor and respond to dirt/debris signals to pass dirt and debris to a dirt and debris conveyor. The disclosed apparatus and method allow for mass flow sorting as well as either active or passive dirt and debris rejection.

摘要: Method, apparatus and system for sorting objects exhibiting identifiable dynamic response to vibrational phenomena, such objects including tomatoes and other comestibles. The system utilizes an elongate sorting zone incorporating a surface which oscillates at a predetermined frequency and amplitude which varies from a minimum at the input of the zone to a maximum value at the output thereof. Conveyor belts transport the objects to be sorted along the zone for a coding interval promoting their dynamic reaction with the oscillatory surface. Objects with higher resilience characteristic are rejected from the zone, while those exhibiting a lesser resilience are transported therethrough. The oscillatory surface is dynamically balanced and readily mounted upon field harvesting devices. By adjustment of frequency of the sorting zone oscillatory surfaces, a multistage sorting system is made available.
