    Abstract: A mobile device and base station are enabled to support improved positioning accuracy in the presence of phase noise in high frequency radio network, such as in 5G New Radio network operating in mmWave. Phase Tracking Reference Signal (PTRS) may be transmitted with Positioning Reference Signals (PRS) and used for positioning and/or used to correct the phase offset between symbols in the PRS. A request may be made to transmit PTRS alone or with the PRS, or that the PRS is transmitted with a specific PRS frame structure, e.g., with a specific comb value, that minimizes the impact of phase noise. The PTRS or a phase ramp of the staggered symbols in the PRS may be used to estimate and correct the phase offset. Less than all of the symbols transmitted in the PRS may be used to generate positioning measurements to minimize the impact of phase noise.

    Abstract: Disclosed are techniques for wireless positioning. In an aspect, a user equipment (UE) performs a plurality of positioning measurements of a corresponding plurality of positioning reference signal (PRS) resources within a measurement window, wherein the measurement window spans at least one system frame number (SFN) rollover, and transmits, to a location server, at least one measurement report associated with the measurement window, the at least one measurement report including a plurality of timestamp information elements corresponding to the plurality of positioning measurements, wherein at least one timestamp information element of the plurality of timestamp information elements indicates the at least one SFN rollover.

    Abstract: Disclosed are techniques for wireless communication. In an aspect, a user equipment (UE) receives, from a base station (BS), an indication of a random access (RA) channel (RACH) preamble. The RACH preamble is a member of a first set of RACH preambles reserved for positioning purposes, the first set of RACH preambles is different from a second set of RACH preambles reserved for communication purposes, and the first and second sets of RACH preambles are associated with the BS. The UE detects, while in a radio resource control (RRC) idle or RRC inactive state, a positioning event. The UE transmits, to the BS, the RACH preamble. The UE receives, from the BS, a RA response for positioning purposes that is different from a RA response for communication purposes, the RA response for positioning purposes including a random access preamble identifier that is mapped to the RACH preamble.
