Abstract:
A surfactant concentrate is provided that includes C8-C22 acyl amido compounds, a polyol and C8-C22 fatty acids. The concentrate is formed via an interesterification reaction between a C1-C3 alkyl ester of a C8-C22 fatty acid and an amino compound or salt thereof in a polyol. The resultant surfactant concentrate will have a Hunter Lab Color Scale value L ranging from 70 to 100.

Abstract:
A cosmetic composition is provided including a water-insoluble UV-A organic sunscreen agent having a max ranging from 330 to 380 nm, a UV-B organic sunscreen agent having a max ranging from 280 to 400 nm, and a photoprotective enhancing agent which is a polyhydroxy quaternary ammonium salt such as bis(dihydroxypropyl)dimethylammonium chloride, in a cosmetically acceptable carrier, and wherein the composition exhibits an SPF value which is 1 to 30 units higher than in the absence of the photoprotective enhancing agent.
Abstract:
A process is provided for preparing C8-C22 acyl glycinate acid or salt thereof via reacting and heating a mixture of glycine or salt thereof with a C1-C3 alkyl ester of a C8-C22 fatty acid in a medium of glycerol or propylene glycol. The reaction proceeds well where the mixture is formulated to have a pKa ranging from 9.5 to 13.

Abstract:
A surfactant concentrate is provided that includes (i) from 35% to 90% by weight a C8-C22 acyl amido surfactant of structure (I) wherein R is a C7-C22 saturated or unsaturated alkyl radical; R2 is hydrogen, CH2COOX or a C1-C5 alkyl radical; R3 is hydrogen; R4 is selected from the group consisting of (CH2)mCO2X, (CH2)mSO3X, CH2NR2(CH2)mOH and glucosyl radicals; R5 is selected from the group consisting of hydrogen, hydroxyphenyl, C1-C6 hydroxyalkyl, C1-C10 alkyl, benzyl, hydroxybenzyl, alkylcarbamido, thioalkyl, and carboxylic radicals; X is selected from hydrogen, metal ions, amine salts and C1-C4 alkyl radicals; and m ranges from 0 to 6; and (ii) from 10 to 60% by weight of polyol; and (iii) from 1 to 20% by weight of C8-C22 fatty acids; and wherein the concentrate has a pH ranging from 9 to 13.
Abstract:
A cosmetic composition and method is herein described for sunless tanning to impart a glow/shiny effect on skin. The composition includes a sunless tanning agent and coated beads incorporating tan colored pigment. A colorant which imparts a color other than tan to the beads is distributed within the coating. The cosmetic composition provides to the skin an immediate tan via the disintegrated beads. Sunless tanning agent acts more slowly and eventually will replace the pigment effect. The coating with colorant prevents the formula undesirably from appearing tan. Instead a color such as white renders the formula more aesthetically pleasing and more in line with the visuals paradigm of a moisturizer rather than a foundation.
Abstract:
A pearlescent liquid cosmetic composition and process for preparation is provided herein. The composition includes 14-25% of a C12-C22 fatty acid; 0.1-1.8% of an alkali metal C12-C22 fatty acid soap by weight of the composition; 0.1-10% niacinamide; and 20-85% water. The lustre effect is achieved by careful control of the level of alkali metal hydroxide used to neutralize the fatty acid.
Abstract:
Disclosed are coumarin derived compounds of formula I as skin lightening agents alone or in combination with other skin benefit agents and together with a cosmetic vehicle: Where each or both R1 and/or R2 represents hydrogen (H); linear or branched, saturated or unsaturated C1-C12 alkyl, alkenyl, acyl, or heteroalkyl (preferably, alkoxy) groups; and R3 represents linear or branched, cyclic or acyclic, saturated or unsaturated C1-C12 alkyl, alkenyl, cycloalkyl, cycloalkenyl, or heteroalkyl group; and R4 represents a hydrogen atom (H); straight or branched, cyclic or acyclic, saturated or unsaturated, containing or not containing a heteroatom C1-C22 alkyl, alkenyl, cycloalkyl, cycloalkenyl, heteroalkyl, aryl, or heteroaryl group. In a most preferred embodiment, each R1, R2 and R4 represent H, while R3 represents a methyl group, referred to herein as a 4-methyl 7-hydroxy-coumarin derivative, or coumarin derived resorcinol derivative, which may be prepared by catalytic (nickel or paladium catalyst) hydrogenation of 4-methyl 7-hydroxy-coumarin followed by hydrolysis. The inventive compounds, compositions and methods have effective skin lightening properties, may be less irritating to the skin, and are cost-effective and relatively simple to manufacture. Also disclosed are processes for making the inventive compounds of general formula I from 4-substituted-7-hydroxy coumarin derivatives.
