    摘要: A radioactivity shielding assembly, suitable for transferring a radioactive substance with a reduced risk of human exposure and environmental contamination, includes a protective shield casing having a reservoir disposed in the casing for receiving the radioactive substance. Associated with the casing is a coupling structure for coupling the reservoir and casing directly to a receiver into which the radioactive substance is to be transferred. The casing includes a side shielding structure in which the reservoir is retained and two end shield structures which are removably attached to the side shield structure. The two end shield structures are removed from the side shield structure at the location at which the radioactive substance is to be discharged, but such removal leaves the reservoir protectively received in the side structure to maintain continued protection against radioactive exposure or contamination. A related method of transferring the radioactive substance is also described.

    摘要: A disposable hood and container assembly for shielding the stopper and top of a test tube during the opening thereof. A container having a cylindrical top has a plastic bag affixed over the top so that the body of the bag extends above the container. The bag has a reinforced opening in the wall through which the stoppered end of a test tube may be inserted. The stopper is then removed by grasping it from outside of the bag and dropping it into the container. Gross blood, serum, other body fluids or any aerosol of blood or body fluids caused by rushing in of air into the evacuated space is captured within the plastic bag. This reduces contamination of the laboratory environment and augments the use of gloves, masks and goggles.

    摘要: Cask-like steel container for one-site storage, later-shipment and permanent disposal of low-level-radiation nuclear waste material. Container has configuration of a hollow cylinder with heavy walls. Bottom portion of container is affixed to cylindrical sides with a double weld. Steel top member has an annular recess as does the top portion of the cylindrical sides, with hermetic, radiation-resistant gasket material included therebetween, and the container top and sides are bolted together. The top member has spaced heavy eyelet-like members affixed thereto for handling the container.
