Furthermore, it is provided that the evaluation and control unit (E) is adapted on the basis of the signals from the braking force sensor (S) to ascertain the transition from static friction to sliding friction between the tire (R) and the roller (L) independently of the speed of rotation of the roller.

An apparatus and method for inspecting a motorcycle. A braking force inspecting unit is provided for calculating a braking force from results measured by a torque measuring unit to determine whether the braking force is acceptable or not when a brake is fully applied and the support rollers are rotated by a motor. A speedometer inspecting unit is provided for determining whether a speedometer is acceptable or not from results measured by a rotational speed measuring unit when the support rollers are rendered rotatable and an engine of the motorcycle is operated. A brake system inspecting unit is provided for calculating a change in a vehicle speed of the motorcycle from the results measured by the rotational speed measuring unit and determining whether an ABS and a CBS operate acceptably or not when the engine of the motorcycle is operated.

A pair of car ramps is provided, each with integral rollers that allow the drive wheels of a vehicle to turn while the vehicle remains stationary. Each ramp is a two-piece unit with a removable inclined section and a separate recessed wheel section. This feature allows the units to store easily as well as aiding in transportation. Additionally, the recessed wheel section is lined with a series of rollers with bearings. These rollers are what allows the drive wheels to turn, while the vehicle remains stationary. The rollers are also provided with a locking mechanism that prevents the rollers from moving to allow the vehicle to drive on and off the invention. A separate but stationary roller prevents the tire from overshooting the recessed rollers. All surfaces that contact grade are covered with rubber protectors to prevent damage.

A process for the verification of an antilock braking system (ABS) in a vehicle to check for correct connection of the component wheel sensors (3, 4, 17, 18, 19, 20), braking pressure modulators (7, 9, 12), and brake cylinders (5, 6, 10, 11, 13, 14) is proposed. The method can be used in a new installation of the ABS or when resuming operation after repair of the system. In a first step, the user causes a single sensed wheel to rotate. This actuates a testing mode in the ABS electronic controller (8). The electronic controller (8) then actuates the modulator belonging to the rotated wheel. From the response of the sensed wheel and/or the actuated modulator, the user recognizes whether the matching between the sensor of the rotated wheel and the actuated modulator is correct. This procedure is then repeated with the other sensed wheels.

An apparatus for testing an anti-lock brake system has rolls and device for detecting rotational changes of the rolls. The test is performed by running a vehicle having mounted thereon the anti-lock brake system while wheels of the vehicle are placed on the rolls, actuating the anti-lock brake system when a predetermined speed has been attained, and judging operating conditions of the anti-lock brake system from rotational changes of the rolls at the time of braking. In the apparatus, the friction coefficient of each of the rolls is set to such a value that a frictional force to act between each of the rolls and each of the wheels at the time of braking exceeds an inertia force of each of the rolls. Also the inertia weight of each of the rolls is set to such a value that deceleration of each of the wheels at the time of braking can be increased to a predetermined level which is required to start an anti-lock control and that each of the wheels does not stop before the completion of a first braking pressure reduction by the anti-lock control.

For checking the operation of an anti-skid system of a motor vehicle, each wheel of the vehicle is placed on rollers of a brake tester. When a brake pedal is depressed to deliver via a brake pedal switch a signal having a predetermiend signal pattern to a control unit, a pseudo signal generating circuit provided in the control unit generates and sends to an actuator for a brake device a pressure reducing signal and a pressure-holding-and-increasing signal combined in a predetermined sequence whereby the brake device is actuated. Whether or not a normal anti-skid control is carried out is confirmed by measuring with the brake tester the braking force actually applied to each wheel in response to the signals delivered from the pseudo signal generating circuit.
