Abstract: An image forming apparatus includes an image bearing member, a charging unit, a laser scanning unit, a developing unit, a transfer member, a recording medium conveyance path, a cleaning unit, and a heating element. The recording medium conveyance path includes a resin member that forms a conveyance surface. The resin member has a concave portion at a location closer to the transfer member than to the image bearing member. The heating element for heating the image bearing member is accommodated in the concave portion. The heating element is disposed downstream from the contact point between the image bearing member and the transfer member in the conveyance direction in which a recording medium is conveyed through the recording medium conveyance path. The developing unit is located upstream from the contact point between the image bearing member and the transfer member in the conveyance direction of the recording medium.

Abstract: An image forming apparatus includes an image bearing member and a static elimination device. The static elimination device irradiates static elimination light onto a circumferential surface of the image bearing member. The image bearing member includes a conductive substrate and a single-layer photosensitive layer. The photosensitive layer contains a charge generating material, a hole transport material, an electron transport material, and a binder resin. The static elimination light has a wavelength of at least 600 nm and no greater than 800 nm. The photosensitive layer has an optical absorption coefficient of at least 600 cm−1 and no greater than 1,500 cm−1 with respect to light having a wavelength of 660 nm.

Abstract: An image forming includes an apparatus main body, a photoreceptor drum, a charging apparatus, a developing device, a transfer apparatus, a charging bias applying unit, a developing bias applying unit, a bias adjusting unit, and a print density measurement unit. The bias adjusting unit forms a non-charged area on a circumference surface of the photoreceptor drum and applies a developing bias constituted of a first electric potential to a developing roller to form a first toner image by an electric potential difference between the non-charged area and the developing roller. The charging bias applying unit forms a second toner image by an electric potential difference between the electric potential area and the developing roller. The charging bias applying unit decides a value of a charging bias corresponding to a target electric potential from measurement results of print densities of the first toner image and the second toner image.

Abstract: An image forming apparatus includes an image bearing member, a developing unit, a cleaning unit, and a heating element. The heating element for heating the image bearing member includes: a substrate having a length corresponding to an entire region of the image bearing member in a longitudinal direction of the image bearing member; and a plurality of resistor chips mounted on the substrate. At least either resistance values or spacing intervals of the resistor chips vary in a longitudinal direction of the substrate to ensure that the surface temperature distribution of the image bearing member heated by the heating element is uniform.

Abstract: An image forming apparatus includes a positively-charged single layer type electrophotographic photoreceptor, a charging device with a contact charging roller for charging a surface of the photoreceptor and an exposure device for exposing the charged surface of the photoreceptor to light to form an electrostatic latent image thereon. A developing device develops the electrostatic latent image into a toner image and a transfer device transfers the toner image to a transferred body. The charging roller is made of electrically conductive rubber having an Asker-C rubber hardness of 62 to 81°. A roller surface roughness of the charging roller has an average distance (Sm) between asperity peaks on a cross-sectional curve of 55 to 130 μm and that a ten-point average roughness (Rz) is 9 to 19 μm. The image forming apparatus is capable of preventing carrier trapping, film peeling and uneven charging in the photoreceptor.
