    Abstract: An ophthalmic lens includes an optic having a first surface and a second surface disposed about an optical axis. At least one of the first surface and the second surface includes a surface profile having a base curvature and a plurality of zones. The base curvature corresponds to a base optical power. The plurality of zones is adapted to produce a plurality of curves corresponding to light energy distribution along the optical axis. The surface profile includes a plurality of adjustments providing an extended depth-of-focus, the plurality of adjustments being adapted to extend each one of the plurality of curves towards another of the plurality of curves. The plurality of adjustments may include at least one spherical aberration. The plurality of adjustments may include at least one longitudinal chromatic aberration. The plurality of adjustments may include at least one phase shift change.

    Abstract: A method and system provide an ophthalmic device. The ophthalmic device includes an ophthalmic lens having anterior surface, a posterior surface and at least one diffractive structure including a plurality of zones. The at least one diffractive structure is for at least one of the anterior surface and the posterior surface. Each zone includes at least one echelette having a least one step height. The step height(s) are individually optimized for each zone. To compensate chromatic aberration of eye from distance to a range of vision, a greater than 2π phase step height may be employed and the step height(s) folded by a phase, which is an integer multiple of two multiplied by π. Hence chromatic aberration of eye may be compensated to improve vision from distance to near.

    Abstract: An ophthalmic lens includes an optic with a first surface, a second surface, and a phase-shift structure having one or more phase-shift regions. A method for fabricating an ophthalmic lens includes designing an optic with a first surface, a second surface, and a phase-shift structure having one or more phase-shift regions. The phase-shift regions may be adapted to generate respective chromatic focal shifts such that an incident radiation in a respective wavelength range at least partially converges towards a respective selected wavelength. The method includes determining a chromatic aberration target for the optic and determining the quantity of the phase-shift regions meeting the chromatic aberration target. The optic is formed with the phase-shift regions having respective optimal heights obtained based in part on an overall interaction effect. The phase-shift structure may be adapted to increase a depth-of-focus of the optic in the direction of extension.
