Abstract: Systems, methods, and apparatuses for removably attaching a drive mechanism handpiece to an intraocular lens (IOL) cartridge that folds the IOL upon retraction of a cap, are provided. The IOL cartridge comprises a nozzle and a compartment configured to receive an IOL. The nozzle is in fluid communication with the compartment. The IOL cartridge also includes a retractable cap that covers the nozzle and the compartment. The retractable cap is configured to expose the nozzle and fold the IOL upon retraction of the retractable cap. The IOL cartridge may also include a plunger case that is in fluid communication with the compartment, wherein a plunger is movably disposed within the plunger case.

Abstract: An apparatus for folding an intraocular lens or other implant before inserting it into an eye in various locations using variable surgical techniques. Some embodiments may comprise or consist essentially of a haptic folding mechanism configured to fold one or more haptics onto the top of an optic prior to the optic being folded into a nozzle. In some embodiments, a leading haptic lifter or lifting mechanism can be configured to elevate and constrain a leading haptic during implant delivery. This leading haptic folding mechanism can passively lift the leading haptic onto the top of the optic.

Abstract: An apparatus for eye surgery comprising a housing comprising a key track, a bore through the housing, a plunger at least partially disposed in the bore, and a plunger key. The plunger may comprise a rail and a keyway, and the plunger key may comprise a key guide coupled to the key track, an arm coupled to the key guide, and a rail slot through the arm. The arm may be disposed through the keyway of the plunger to allow the arm to move along the key track from a first position to a second position. The arm may be configured to block the rail in the first position and to align the rail slot with the rail in the second position so that the rail can move through the rail slot.

Abstract: An intraocular lens (IOL) insertion apparatus includes a handpiece body having a distal tip and a proximal section. The IOL insertion apparatus also includes a folding chamber located within the handpiece body, the folding chamber shaped to fold an IOL advancing through the folding chamber. The IOL insertion apparatus also includes an advancement system. The advancement system includes an advancement carriage movable between a first position and a second position within the handpiece body. The advancement carriage includes a spring system biasing the advancement carriage in a distal direction toward the second position and a dampening system to dampen motion of the advancement carriage. The advancement system further includes an elongated advancement plunger that includes a distal end to advance the IOL through the folding chamber and a proximal end connected to the advancement carriage.
