Abstract:
A case for a portable electronic device (especially for an iPhone and the like) comprises a shell 50, an electroluminescent (EL) panel 10 and associated power and control electronics housed on a printed circuit board 20. The electronics on the PCB include a connector 22 for mating with a corresponding connector on the portable electronic device so as to form an electrical connection to a power source in the portable electronic device. Another of the electrical components is There are further provided an inverter 24 and a transformer 26 to convert the low voltage DC power from the portable electronic device into approximately 180 V AC as required to power the EL panel 10. The shell 50 has a clear back 52 through which light produced by the EL panel 10 shines. Interchangeable graphics panels 100 can be slid into a pocket disposed between the EL panel 10 and the back 52 of the shell so as to customise the visual appearance of the case and hence the portable electronic device inside.
Abstract:
Gaming apparatus, e.g. an Electronic Gaming Machine (EGM) (1), includes a controller (2) for implementing e.g. a slot-machine game, a poker game or the like. The EGM (1) displays a gaming image on a display (5), e.g. virtual symbol reels or card hands, and receives player instructions via an input (6) or the like, e.g. to spin the reels or manage the cards. The EGM (1) includes a guarantee feature in which an event is guaranteed to trigger if a monitored event (e.g. of the same type as the guaranteed event) does not occur within a set amount of gameplay. A guarantee indicator (9), e.g. a numerical countdown or gauge, indicates the remaining amount of gameplay required before the guarantee feature triggers. The monitored and/or guaranteed event may be a win event or a feature event, e.g. the triggering of a bonus round, free game or the like.
Abstract:
Provided are a method and a system for inventorying batteries. In exemplary embodiments, a computer assisted method for inventorying batteries includes identifying a battery string at a location and reading battery identification data associated with one or more batteries in the battery string which includes a battery voltage. After reading the battery identification data and aggregating the magnitudes of the battery voltages in the battery string, if the aggregate of the magnitudes of the voltages is not equal to a required voltage then an error message is generated. If the aggregate of the voltages of the batteries is equal to the required voltage then the process may be repeated for the next string, if any, at the location.
Abstract:
Gaming apparatus (1), e.g. an Electronic Gaming Machine (EGM), includes a controller (2) for implementing e.g. a slot-machine game, casino game or the like. The controller (2) displays a suitable gaming image on a screen (6), e.g. virtual symbol reels or card hands, and a player interacts with the EGM 1 through buttons (8) or the like, e.g. to spin the reels or deal cards. The apparatus includes award means for awarding a player event points during the course of play, accumulator means for accumulating the awarded event points, and purchasing/selection means for allowing a player to purchase a game event using the accumulated event points. These game events may provide the player with the chance of higher returns or the like, and may include free plays, high return games, a jackpot game and the like.
Abstract:
A control release device for the delivery of active components, the device including; a rigid housing containing at least one discrete aperture therein, and a driving substance containing the active component(s) placed within the housing, characterized in that the driving substance swells in the presence of fluid, driving the substance and active components out of the housing through the apertures.
Abstract:
The present invention provides a technique for providing color corrected images to a user over a network. The user's computer and its associated devices may be remotely calibrated and or characterized and the data made available over the network to permit multiple image providers to provide color corrected images to a user. A notification technique is also provided to notify a user when the image or images being displayed is color corrected. It is emphasized that this abstract is provided to comply with the rules requiring an abstract which will allow a searcher or other reader to quickly ascertain the subject matter of the technical disclosure. It is submitted with the understanding that it will not be used to interpret or limit the scope or meaning of the claims.

Abstract:
A clothes dryer has a heat source, preferably a heat pump, a rotating drum, and means to generate flow of air from the heat source to an inlet in the drum. At least two outlets are separated from each other in the drum to enable higher air flow rates without increase in pressure drop, resulting in reduced drying time.
Abstract:
The invention relates to hybrid nucleic acid molecules for gene therapy in cells of the erythroid lineage, and in particular &agr;-, &bgr;-, &dgr;-, &egr;, &ggr;-, or &zgr;-globin nucleotide sequences operably linked to &bgr;-globin regulatory elements. The hybrid nucleic acid molecules, at single copy, are capable of producing a polypeptide. The hybrid nucleic acid molecules are useful for treatment of hemoglobinopathies such as sickle cell anemia or &bgr;-thalassemia. The hybrid nucleic acid molecules are useful at single copy for erythroid expression at single copy of RNA and polypeptides in transgenic animals.
