Abstract: A method is performed by a node configured to implement an Operation, Administration, and Maintenance (OAM) protocol for rapid link failure detection. The node receives peer OAM packets sent by a peer node over a link at a peer periodic interval. While in a first mode of the OAM protocol, the node determines whether the peer node is reachable based on the peer OAM packets, sends OAM packets to the peer node at a periodic interval to indicate to the peer node that the node is reachable, and responsive to detecting a critical condition of the node that impairs the sending the OAM packets, transitions to a second mode of the OAM protocol. While in the second mode, the node adds, to the peer OAM packets, a code to indicate the critical condition, and reflects the peer OAM packets with the code back to the peer node.

Abstract: Techniques for defining a service flow definition among container pods that provide services in a network. The techniques may include an orchestrator of a computer network platform of the network determining which container pods need to communicate with which container pods. The service flow definition thus indicates needed paths between the container pods. In configurations, a cluster topology may be determined where the cluster topology indicates corresponding nodes of the network in which each container pod is located, as well as end points of the network with which the corresponding nodes communicate. Based at least in part on the service flow definition and the cluster topology, corresponding route distribution policies may be determined for the end points. The corresponding route distribution policies may be applied to the end points.

Abstract: A method is provided that involves obtaining service pre-conditions associated with a service to be supported in a network. The method includes providing a plurality of digital Intellectual Capital (IC) modules, and providing signature pre-condition logic that specifies one or more conditions that indicate relevancy of one or more digital IC modules. The method includes selecting, from the plurality of digital IC modules, based on the service pre-conditions and the signature pre-condition logic, one or more particular digital IC modules that are applicable to the service in the network. The method further includes determining information to be obtained from one or more nodes in the network based on the one or more particular digital IC modules, and obtaining the information from the one or more nodes in the network. The information is analyzed to determine whether the one or more specific operational issues are present in the network.

Abstract: In one embodiment, a system and method are disclosed for sending a request and receiving a reply. The request contains a network service header including a flow label field and a target index field. The flow label field contains a set of available flow labels. The target index field includes a value indicating a target node. The reply contains information indicating which of the flow labels can be used to route a packet to each of the next hop nodes downstream from the device that sent the reply. This process can be repeated for other nodes on a path, and other paths in a service topology layer. The information determined by this process can be used to perform other necessary functionalities at the service topology layer.

Abstract: Techniques are presented herein for determining equal cost multi-path (ECMP) performance health in a network. In accordance with an example embodiment, a method is provided that involves obtaining information indicating ECMP paths in a network, the network comprises of a plurality of nodes that includes at least one branch node. The method includes configuring the branch node to obtain ECMP performance metrics, and obtaining the ECMP performance metrics from the branch node. The method further includes analyzing the ECMP performance metrics to determine ECMP performance health of the branch node.

Abstract: A system and method predict risks of failure or performance issues in a network to predictively position traffic flows in the network. For a traffic flow through a network, first data accumulated in a header of packets for the traffic flow is obtained, which header is populated by network elements along a path of the traffic flow through the network. Second data is obtained about the network in general including other network elements not along the path of the traffic flow. Machine learning analysis is performed to derive rules that characterize failure or performance risk issues in the network. The rules and topology data describing a topology of the network are applied to a model to create a topological graphical representation indicating failure or performance issues in the network that affect the traffic flow. A path for the traffic flow is modified based on the topological graphical representation.
