Abstract: Various aspects of the present disclosure generally relate to wireless communication. In some aspects, a user equipment (UE) may determine a guard period associated with switching from a first communication mode to a second communication mode. The UE may be operating in a half-duplex frequency division duplexing mode of operation. The guard period may be determined based at least in part on at least one of: a number of phased locked loops to be used for the first communication mode and the second communication mode, and a particular subcarrier spacing associated with the UE. The UE may switch from the first communication mode to the second communication mode based at least in part on the guard period. Numerous other aspects are provided.

Abstract: This disclosure provides systems, methods, and apparatus, including computer programs encored on computer storage media, for fifth generation (5G)-new radio (NR) physical layer (PHY) timing synchronization. In one aspect, a user equipment (UE) computing device may determine a new timing advance (TA) between downlink frames and uplink frames (NTA_new) for a base station (BS) and determine whether the NTA_new may be within a timing advance acceptable range. In another aspect, a BS may determine a timing advance command (TA) for a timing advance group (TAG) for the BS, and send the TA to the UE computing device. In determining the timing advance command, the TA may be configured by the BS to cause the UE computing device to determine that a new timing advance between downlink frames and uplink frames (NTA_new) for the BS using the TA is within a timing advance acceptable range.

Abstract: This disclosure provides systems, methods and apparatus for determining a target base station timing advance value between a user equipment (UE) and target base station in connection with a random access channel (RACH)-less handover procedure. In one aspect, the UE may determine the target base station's timing advance based at least in part on a timing difference between the target base station and the source base station and based at least in part on a timing offset associated with an uplink and a downlink of the UE. In some aspects, the target base station may determine the timing advance using an uplink reference signal of the UE. In some aspects, the UE may report a timing difference between the target base station and the source base station, and the source cell may determine a timing advance based at least in part on the timing difference.

Abstract: A user equipment (UE) may be configured to receive configuration information from a base station, and the configuration information may indicate at least two different random access channel (RACH) request configuration parameters that each is associated with a respective radio resource control (RRC) state. The UE may be further configured to generate a first message associated with a two-step RACH procedure including a preamble and a payload, the payload including data on an uplink data channel and at least one reference signal. The UE may be further configured to transmit the first message to the base station using at least one of the at least two different RACH request configuration parameters that corresponds to an RRC state of the UE. The preamble may be transmitted on a first set of resources associated with a RACH occasion, and the payload may be transmitted on a second set of resources.
