Abstract: A network device receives a data packet including a source address and a destination address. The network device drops the data packet before it reaches the destination address and generates an error message indicating that the data packet has been dropped. The network device encapsulates the error message with a segment routing header comprising a list of segments. The first segment of the list of segments in the segment routing header identifies a remote server, and at least one additional segment is an instruction for handling the error message. The network device sends the encapsulated error message to the remote server based on the first segment of the segment routing header.

Abstract: Systems, methods, and computer-readable media for providing container specific information as part of in-situ OAM, SRH or NSH of a data packet in order to provide a more holistic overview of a path traversed by a data packet in a network. In one aspect of the present disclosure, a method of providing container specific information includes receiving a data packet at a corresponding container; determining identification information of the corresponding container; modifying the data packet to include the container specific information to yield a modified data packet; and forwarding the modified data packet to a next destination based on destination information included in the data packet.

Abstract: Seamless multipoint label distribution protocol (mLDP) transport over a bit index explicit replication (BIER) core may be provided. First, it may be determined that a first plurality of network devices comprise BIER edge routers. Then, in response to determining that the first plurality of network devices comprise BIER edge routers, a Targeted Label Distribution Protocol (T-LDP) session may be created between a first one of the first plurality of network devices and a second one of the first plurality of network devices. Next, an address of a peer device connected to the second one of the first plurality of network devices may be advertised by the second one of the first plurality of network devices over the T-LDP session.

Abstract: The present disclosure provides a proactive method of prefix disaggregation in a network fabric when one or more communication failures are detected. In one aspect, a method includes determining, by a first node of a network fabric, a corresponding prefix disaggregation policy for at least one second node of the network fabric, the corresponding prefix disaggregation policy identifying one or more network prefixes that are inaccessible via the first node when at least one communication failure is detected in association with the first node; sending the corresponding prefix disaggregation policy to the second node; and causing the second node to implement the prefix disaggregation policy upon detecting the at least one communication failure.

Abstract: A method for augmenting metadata of a network service header is disclosed. The method includes receiving, at a first service node, a packet or frame of a traffic flow, wherein the packet has a payload and the network service header including a first metadata and a first service path information for the traffic flow, classifying, by the first service node, at least one of the payload and the first metadata to generate a second metadata different from the first metadata, and augmenting, by the first service node, the first metadata using the second metadata before forwarding the packet or frame to a second service node.

Abstract: One embodiment is a method including creating at an ingress node of a communications network a request message identifying a hashing parameter for a network application, and including range of values for the identified hashing parameter to enable load balancing for packets associated with the network application; forwarding the created request message to a node associated with a next hop along a first path through the network between the ingress node and an egress node; and receiving a response message from the node associated with the next hop, wherein the response message includes load balancing information for the node associated with the next hop corresponding to the range of values for the identified hashing parameter.

Abstract: In one embodiment, segment routing (SR) network processing of packets is performed which includes operations signaling and processing of packets in manners providing processing and/or memory efficiencies. One embodiment includes acquiring a segment routing particular packet by a particular router in a network. Responsive to the particular router data plane ascertained during fast path processing by a fast path processing unit that the segment routing particular packet is to be Operations, Administration, and Maintenance (OAM) processed by a different processing unit in the particular router, communicating a time stamp of a current time and the segment routing particular packet including a segment routing header that includes OAM signaling from said fast path processing to the different processing unit, with fast path processing being hardware-based packet processing by the fast path processing unit. The segment routing particular packet is OAM processing by the different processing unit.

Abstract: Presented herein are techniques for monitoring packets in a container networking environment. A method includes receiving a packet at a network node, the packet having been routed to the network node in accordance with instructions from a container orchestration system, inserting an additional field in the packet that is configured to record a path of the packet within a first POD of the host device that includes at least one container, forwarding the packet to the first POD of the host device in accordance with the instructions from the container orchestration system, updating the additional field with container networking path information as the packet transits the first POD and the at least one container therein, storing the container path information in an analytics node of the network node, removing the additional field from the packet, and transmitting the packet from the network node to the network.

Abstract: A reactive mechanism for in-situ operation, administration, and maintenance (IOAM) traffic is provided. In one embodiment, a method is provided that includes assigning a plurality of discriminator identifiers associated with a plurality of discriminators. Each discriminator is mapped to a specified action. The method includes receiving a data packet that includes an IOAM header comprising telemetry data associated with the data packet and a bidirectional forwarding detection (BFD) field that includes a specified discriminator identifier. The method further includes determining whether the specified discriminator identifier matches one of the plurality of discriminator identifiers, and, upon determining that the specified discriminator identifier matches a first discriminator identifier of the plurality of discriminator identifiers, the method includes initiating a seamless bidirectional forwarding detection (S-BFD) reflector session to transmit a response packet according to a first action mapped to a first discriminator associated with the first discriminator identifier.
