摘要: A unit cell of an artificial phononic crystal for building of an artificial phononic metamaterial, showing reduced mechanical vibrations in a defined frequency range with at least one band gap in the band structure dispersion relation of the unit cell. The unit cell includes at least one building block and at least one mechanical connection connected to the building block, showing reduced mechanical vibrations in a defined frequency range with tailored dispersion properties with at least one band gap is sought. This is accomplished by forming the building block as a toroid, with a central opening and a front surface from which a first multiplicity of struts, which are tiltable relatively to the principal direction, is extending from the front surface. More than one strut is inclined with respect to the principal direction so that a rotation of the toroid around the principal direction is possible.

摘要: Apparatus and methods for using acoustic radiation forces to order particles suspended in a host liquid are described. The particles may range in size from nanometers to millimeters, and may have any shape. The suspension is placed in an acoustic resonator cavity, and acoustical energy is supplied thereto using acoustic transducers. The resulting pattern may be fixed by using a solidifiable host liquid, forming thereby a solid material. Patterns may be quickly generated; typical times ranging from a few seconds to a few minutes. In a one-dimensional arrangement, parallel layers of particles are formed. With two and three dimensional transducer arrangements, more complex particle configurations are possible since different standing-wave patterns may be generated in the resonator. Fabrication of periodic structures, such as metamaterials, having periods tunable by varying the frequency of the acoustic waves, on surfaces or in bulk volume using acoustic radiation forces, provides great flexibility in the creation of new materials. Periodicities may range from millimeters to sub-micron distances, covering a large portion of the range for optical and acoustical metamaterials.

摘要: In one embodiment of the invention, a noise barrier is disclosed that provides noise insulation from roadway noise, construction sites, manufacturing sites, railways or the like wherein the noise barrier includes a plurality of vertical sections, with each section having a base portion with a generally inverted T configuration. The inverted T configuration includes bottom flanges designed to be mounted substantially in the ground. At least one mounting post is attached to the base portion; and a barrier member manufactured from recycled rubber materials and a binder is mounted to the mounting post. The barrier member includes a through hole for receipt of the mounting post. The through hole extends from a bottom end of the barrier member vertically up and out a top end of the barrier member.

摘要: Transparent panel of acrylic glass (PMMA) having internal reinforcement elements for securing fragments of the acrylic glass formed upon an impact with a foreign body. The reinforcement elements are embedded interspersed within the panel and spaced apart in parallel longitudinally. The reinforcement elements include rigid cables and elastic cables. The rigid cables are formed of a metal having an ultimate tensile strength of at least 500 MPa. The elastic cables are formed of a metal having a percentage elongation (engineering strain at fracture) of at least 30%, preferably between 40% and 80%. The rigid cables and elastic cables may be separate and spaced apart from one another, or intertwined with each other. The panels may be used to form an acoustic barrier.
