Abstract: An extended range, consistent force rail brake comprising an adjustable wedge assembly operatively situated between the main power spring(s) and the brake shoe(s) for selectively taking up the vertical distance that the brake shoe is required to travel between the brake release position and an initial railhead contact position. The adjustable wedge assembly is thus selectively expandable in the vertical orientation, and may comprise: an upper block that is operatively connected, either directly or indirectly, to the power spring; a lower wedge rigidly affixed to a replaceable brake shoe; and an intermediate wedge that is located by suitable bearings and/or linkages for transverse, generally horizontal slidable engagement between the upper block and the lower wedge. Each of the upper block and lower wedge elements of the wedge assembly are, respectively, located by suitable bearings and/or linkages for generally vertical translational motion (but very little, if any, lateral or longitudinal horizontal motion) within upper and lower guides provided on a frame of the rail brake.

Abstract: An adjuster mechanism for a disc brake. The adjuster mechanism may include an outer piston and an inner piston. The outer piston may define a bore having a female thread, a non-threaded region, and a transition region. The non-threaded region may have a greater diameter than a minor diameter of the female thread. The minor diameter of the female thread in the transition region may progressively increase until it meets a major diameter of the female thread.

Abstract: A method for controlling an electromagnetic brake (1) having a coil carrier (2), a solenoid (5), an armature disc (7), and at least one further force-exerting element. The internal and external poles (3, 4) of the coil carrier each have a front surface with a varying gradient that fits, in a complementary fashion, the front surfaces of the respective internal and external poles (8, 9) of the armature disc. The brake has an air gap (11) which varies in size and forms a stroke region (21). When excitation occurs, the solenoid generates a magnetic force, and the force-exerting element generates an opposing force, wherein the ratio of the solenoid's magnetic force and the opposing force varies at least once between greater than and smaller than one during the movement of the armature disc in the stroke region owing to the variation of the excitation of the solenoid.

Abstract: A cast iron brake caliper of a disc brake, includes a caliper back and caliper head connected to the caliper back via tension struts arranged parallel and spaced apart from one another. The caliper head has a housing surrounding an accommodation chamber for functional parts and, separate from and adjacent to the housing, an integrally molded, protruding connector, which accommodates a bearing bore for a fixed bearing, and is connected to the housing by way of an integrally molded rib. The brake caliper is designed such that the rib is guided across the connector up to and into an outer edge region of the caliper head.

The brake further includes an operating lever, wherein the drive pin extends radially directly from the shaft surface of the shaft and wherein the operating lever includes a groove that receives the drive pin.
