    摘要: An automotive transparency having a heatable wiper rest area includes a first glass sheet and a second glass sheet secured together by an interlayer material. An opaque band is positioned on the inner surface of the outer glass sheet along a portion of an edge of the outer sheet at an expected wiper rest areas; and an electrically conductive member is positioned on a major surface of the second glass sheet and extends along an edge portion of the second sheet at the wiper rest area. A plurality of bus bars positioned in electrical contact along the conductive member divides the conductive member into a plurality of heatable areas with a first lead electrically interconnecting selected ones of the bus bars and a second lead electrically interconnecting other selected ones of the bus bars with overlying portions of the first and second leads electrically isolated from each other.

    摘要: A heated windshield wiper system for eliminating ice and snow accumulation upon a windshield wiper thereby preventing interference with the wiper's operation. The inventive device includes a heat exchanger for engagement with a heated portion of a vehicle such as an engine manifold, a fan connected to the heat exchanger, an exchange tube fluidly connected to the fan opposite of the heat exchanger, a plurality of air channels within the wiper frame fluidly connected to the wiper frame, a blade member removably attached to the wiper frame, an air passageway within the blade member fluidly connected to the exchange tube, and a plurality of vents within the blade member and connected to the air passageway from releasing the warm air conducted by the heat exchanger. The warm air prevents ice and snow from accumulating upon the wiper frame or wiper blade. In an alternative embodiment, the exchange tube may be directly connected to a blower manifold of the vehicle's heat system.

    摘要: An arrangement for heating upper and lower windshield wiper blades parked proximate the lower edge of a windshield utilizes an electric heating grid placed against the inside surface of the windshield, substantially in alignment with the parked wiper blades. The electric heating grid is comprised of a first wire in alignment with the lower blade, an intermediate wire and an upper wire in alignment with the upper blade. The wires have opposite ends which are connected to busses that are disposed at the lower edge of the windshield, the busses having leads for connection to power circuitry. The power circuitry includes a climate control system having a switch which is rotatable to a defrost position. When the switch is rotated to the defrost position so that the climate control system defrosts the windshield, current flows through the grid. As long as the switch is in the defrost position, the current continues to flow. The power circuitry also includes a windshield wiper deicing switch which operates independently of the defrost switch. Associated with the windshield wiper deicing switch is a timer which opens the closed deicing switch after a selected interval of time. This arrangement provides an inexpensive reliable system for deicing windshield wiper blades because the wires are disposed on the windshield against the inside surface of the windshield.
