Abstract:
Low pressure sodium lamp color output is shifted from yellow to a fuller spectral range of visible light (white) by effective simultaneous excitation of sodium and a mercury additive. This is made possible principally by controlling the vapor constituents and the excitation arrangement.
Abstract:
The low-pressure sodium discharge lamp according to the invention has a U-shaped discharge tube (1) with seals (4, 5), through which current-supply conductors (6, 7) extend to electrodes (8, 9). A supporting member (14) fixes the discharge tube (1) in an outer bulb (10). Upright collars (18, 19) at the supporting member (14), which surround the seals (4, 5) throughout their lengths, prevent the discharge tube from becoming leaky at high-frequency operation and the lamp from reaching the end of its life prematurely.
Abstract:
The invention relates to a low-pressure sodium-vapour discharge lamp which contains an excess of sodium. According to the invention the discharge tube contains a capillary connecting duct extending from a pool of liquid sodium. The provision of the capillary connecting duct prevents the power consumption of the lamp from increasing during the life of the lamp.
Abstract:
The invention relates to improvements in low-pressure vapour discharge lamps, for example sodium vapour discharge lamps. According to the invention a discharge tube for such a lamp is provided with an exhaust tube which extends into the discharge tube. The exhaust tube is closed at its tip within the discharge tube and is adapted to constitute a reservoir for vapourisable substance, such as sodium. Communication between the reservoir and interior of the discharge tube is provided by an aperture in the wall of the exhaust tube. In lamps made with such discharge tubes, the reservoir helps to ensure even distribution of vapour within the discharge tube, thereby improving the intensity and uniformity of light emitted by the lamp.
Abstract:
The low pressure sodium discharge lamp has an outer envelope (1) in which a U-shaped discharge tube (10) is accommodated. A mica disk (20) having holes (21 ) through which pinches (11) of the discharge tube extend, keeps the discharge tube centered. The mica disk (20) has teeth (22) at its periphery, which are bent towards the lamp base (5) and clampingly engage the outer envelope. The disk allows for the outer envelope to be fused to a flared tube (3) in a drop-seal process and provides several additional features.
Abstract:
A low-pressure sodium vapor discharge lamp having electrodes at the ends of the discharge vessel, the lamp comprising means which prevent the vapor pressure of sodium in the discharge vessel from exceeding 3.times.10.sup.-5 torr during the life of the lamp.
