摘要: A strengthened glass sheet product along with a process and an apparatus for strengthening a glass sheet are provided. The process comprises cooling the glass sheet by non-contact thermal conduction for sufficiently long to fix a surface compression and central tension of the sheet. The process results in thermally strengthened glass sheets having improved breakage properties.

摘要: For bending a glass sheet so that the glass sheet has a compound curvature, an apparatus comprises a furnace including hearth beds on a bed support and a quenching unit provided with upper and lower air blowers. The final hearth bed may have a top surface with a simple curvature, be provided with one upstream corner cut away thereby defining a cut surface section and arranged in such a manner that the cut surface section is nearly parallel to the hearth bed adjacent to the final hearth bed. Alternatively, the final hearth bed may have a top surface with a compound curvature, so that the glass sheet is bent under the conditions set by controlling a temperature in a downstream part of the furnace, adjusting the inclination of the lower air blower and/or rotating final hearth bed so as to reverse the upstream and downstream ends thereof.

摘要: For bending a glass sheet so that the glass sheet has a compound curvature, an apparatus comprises a furnace including hearth beds on a bed support and a quenching unit provided with upper and lower air blowers. 摘要: A heating furnace for heating a sheet of glass therein houses an array of beds for transferring the sheet of glass successively over the beds in the furnace in a first direction toward an outlet opening of the heating furnace while shaping the sheet of glass complementarily to an upper surface of the beds. Each of the beds has a plurality of hot air ejection holes for ejecting hot air to keep the sheet of glass out of contact with the beds. The beds include a final bed disposed near the outlet opening and inclined upwardly toward the outlet opening. The final bed has an upper panel which is upwardly convex in both the first direction and a second direction transverse to the first direction.

摘要: Sheet glass is heated during conveyance on a conveyor within a furnace. A vacuum holder is positioned within the furnace housing above the conveyor and has a downwardly facing surface with spaced openings in which a vacuum is drawn to receive a glass sheet from the conveyor and support the sheet above the conveyor. The holder surface is disclosed as being both planar and curved and as having a porous cover of ceramic fibers so as to distribute the vacuum and prevent marring of the glass as it is supported. Auxiliary lifters positioned between the rolls or vertical movement of the vacuum holder facilitates glass pickup. A carrier mold ring moves under the supported glass and the vacuum is then terminated so the glass drops onto the ring and bends under the bias of gravity in a manner that allows thin glass to be accurately bent. Subsequently the mold ring is moved from the furnace to a quench unit that temper the bent glass.

摘要: Glass is annealed by conveying between water jackets having radiation absorbing surfaces adjacent opposite faces of the glass. Water is circulated through the jackets to keep the surfaces at a low enough temperature to achieve nett absorption of radiation from the glass. Hot gas is directed towards the glass faces through passageways extending through the water jackets. The hot gas forms controlled zones against opposite faces of the advancing glass so as to control the temperature gradient through the glass as it is annealed.
