Abstract: A computer-implemented method to store messages is disclosed. The method may include obtaining a minimum message length for stored messages. The minimum message length may be greater than zero. The method may further include determining an amount of available storage space allocated for storage of user messages on a computer-readable medium. The method may also include, in response to a communication session not being established between a user of a first communication device and a second communication device and in response to the amount of available storage space being greater than zero but being insufficient to store the minimum message length, not storing a user message and providing an indication that there is no available storage space.

Abstract: Apparatuses and methods are disclosed for automatically connecting to a relay service and establish a captioning communication session during a call between a hearing-impaired user and a far-end user. The apparatus includes communication elements configured to receive captions from a relay service, and a processor configured to automatically connect to the relay service and establish a captioning communication session during a call responsive to a determination that a connection to the relay service failed during a time in which the hearing-impaired user desired captions to be enabled. A method includes determining captions are desired by the hearing-impaired user at a first time to be enabled for display to the communication device during a call, detecting a failed connection to the relay service at a second time, and automatically connecting with the relay service and establishing a new captioning communication session at a third time during the call.

Abstract: Apparatuses and methods are disclosed for automatic volume control of an audio stream reproduced by a captioning communication service for use by a call assistant in generating a text transcription of a communication session between a hearing-impaired user and a far-end user. The automatic volume control automatically adjusts a volume of the audio stream reproduced by the captioning communication service responsive to a volume control command identifying which of the far-end voice signal and the near-end voice signal is active at a given time. The system further includes an echo modifier configured to add distortion to an echo portion of the far-end voice signal when generating the audio stream.

Abstract: A method to adjust a phone number is provided. The method may include receiving a first phone call at a telephonic device and obtaining a phone number from the first phone call. In some embodiments, the phone number may identify an origin of the first phone call. The method may further include prepending a digit to the phone number and storing the phone number with the prepended digit in a memory in the telephonic device. In some embodiments, the method may further include using the stored phone number to initiate automatic placement of the second phone call.

Abstract: A method to present communications is provided. The method may include obtaining, at a device, a request from a user to play back a stored message that includes audio. In response to obtaining the request, the method may include directing the audio of the message to a transcription system from the device. In these and other embodiments, the transcription system may be configured to generate text that is a transcription of the audio in real-time. The method may further include obtaining, at the device, the text from the transcription system and presenting, by the device, the text generated by the transcription system in real-time. In response to obtaining the text from the transcription system, the method may also include presenting, by the device, the audio such that the text as presented is substantially aligned with the audio.
