Abstract:
Novel curable resin compositions are disclosed containing an aromatic cyanate ester and an allyl ether of a bisphenol as a modifier. These compositions provide improved prepregs and composites. Additional modifiers including epoxy resins and bismaleimides may be included.
Abstract:
A pultrusion resin composition comprising about 75 wt % to about 85 wt % of a phenolic resin, about 9 wt % to about 20 wt % of the reaction product of a polyhydroxy compound and an epoxy-functional polysiloxane, about 6 wt % to about 15 wt %, of a phenolic epoxy, and about 0.2 wt % to about 1 wt % of a catalyst, based on total weight of the composition. Pultruded products are formed by drawing fibrous reinforcement through a bath of the pultrusion resin composition.
Abstract:
An intumescent composition comprising the dried product of a composition containing as essential components (1) the reaction product of aluminum oxide or aluminum hydroxide hydrate and an organic amine phosphate or a salt thereof, and (2) expandable graphite flake.
Abstract:
An aqueous composition containing an acid-hardenable melamine-formaldehyde resin and a nitrogen-containing acidic phosphorus curing agent made from either phosphoric acid or phosphorous acid which is curable to an intumescent composition.
Abstract:
Layered, fiber-reinforced composites toughened by the use of thermosetting matrix resins including rigid particles are improved in toughness when the particles are porous and have a spheroidal spongy structure, are formed of a polyamide. The method of the invention is particularly effective in improving the toughness of composites based on thermoset matrix resins, and particularly epoxy resins.
Abstract:
Epoxy resin formulations having improved storage stability comprising epoxys selected from the group consisting of polyglcidyl ethers of polycyclic bridged hydroxy-substituted polyaromatic compounds and N,N,N',N'-tetraglycidyl-bis(4-amino-3-ethylphenyl) methane with from about 6 to about 150 pbw, per hundred parts by weight of the epoxy resin components, of a solid aromatic diamine hardener insoluble in said composition at room temperature in an amount effective to cure said epoxy resin.
Abstract:
The present application is directed to methods for preparation of polymer particles in gel form and carbon materials made therefrom. The carbon materials comprise enhanced electrochemical properties and find utility in any number of electrical devices, for example, as electrode material in ultracapacitors or batteries. The methods herein can also be employed generally to improve emulsion and/or suspension polymerization processes by improved control of diffusion of acidic and basic species between the polymer and secondary phases.
Abstract:
An aqueous composition containing a hardenable binder of a melamine compound, such as an acid-hardenable melamine-formaldehyde resin, and an acidic phosphorus compound, such as a nitrogen-containing phosphorus compound made from either phosphoric acid or phosphorus acid, and expandable graphite flake, which composition is curable to an intumescent composition.
Abstract:
This invention relates to a resin composition capable of being thermally cured having both a long pot life at low temperatures and a fast curing rate at higher temperatures containing a mixture of (a) a phenol-formaldehyde resole resin, and (b) a latent curing agent selected from a particular class of nitrogen-containing acidic phosphorus compounds made from either phosphoric acid or phosphorous acid.
