Abstract: An apparatus and a method for controlling screen brightness in a mobile terminal are provided. Particularly, an apparatus and a method for providing information regarding a currently set screen brightness degree and simplifying a process for changing a brightness control mode in a mobile terminal are provided. A sensing unit of the terminal determines an amount of ambient light during an automatic brightness control mode that controls the screen brightness, and a screen manager controls the screen brightness according to either a user mode or an automatic mode where the transition from the automatic mode to the user mode is simplified.
