Abstract: Disclosed herein are a method and apparatus for transmitting and receiving discovery messages in a wireless communication system. Specifically, a method for transmitting and receiving discovery messages in a wireless communication system supporting communication between user equipments (UEs) includes receiving, by a UE in a Radio Resource Control_IDLE (RRC_IDLE) state, information about an allocated resource for transmitting a discovery message from a network and transmitting, by the UE, the discovery message in the resource for transmitting the discovery message. The resource for transmitting the discovery message may be allocated based on a tracking area in which the device is located.
