An image reading apparatus includes an image reading unit, a mounting portion, and a cover member. The cover member includes a first restricting portion, a lock portion, and an operation portion. The operation portion operated from outside the main unit is displaceable in a direction in which the lock portion deforms from the locking shape into the releasing shape. The mounting portion includes a second restricting portion and a part. The second restricting portion restricts displacement of the operation portion in the cover member mounted on the mounting portion in the second orientation. The part has a second aperture opening into the lock portion in the cover member mounted on the mounting portion in the second orientation from outside the main unit. The second aperture is an opening for the insertion of a tool for deforming the lock portion from the locking shape into the releasing shape.

An image reading device includes a scanner casing fixed to an upper side of a body frame of an image forming apparatus body, a document pressing member that covers an upper surface of the scanner casing, a leg part provided to be movable with respect to the scanner casing in a vertical direction, a stationary part fixed to an upper end of the leg part, a rotating part connected rotatably to the stationary part via a hinge shaft and supporting the document pressing member, a holding mechanism to hold an opening angle of the document pressing member, and cylindrical parts, passing through the scanner casing in the vertical direction, and having lower end portions fixed to the body frame. The leg part is inserted into the cylindrical part from an upper end opening of the cylindrical part and inclined to a side of the document pressing member.

An image reading apparatus for reading an image of an original document includes a document placement surface, an illumination unit, a light-receiving unit, and an illumination control unit. The illumination unit includes: a first light guiding body in a bar shape extended in a first direction configured to irradiate a light to the original document along a second direction, a second light guiding body arranged at a distance from the first light guiding body configured to irradiate a light to the original document along a third direction, a pair of first light sources emits illuminating lights to be injected into the first incident surfaces, a pair of second light sources emits illuminating lights to be injected into the second incident surface. The illumination control unit is configured to control light-emitting operations of the first light source and the second light source corresponding to the reading mode.
