Abstract: The invention relates to a gas turbine engine comprising a casing having a compressor section, combustion section and turbine section, axially arranged in a flow direction about a rotational axis of the engine. The engine includes a rotor located within the casing and rotatable about the rotational axis, including multiple sets of circumferentially arranged blades, with at least one set corresponding to the compressor section and another set corresponding to the turbine section. The engine also includes a set of vanes circumferentially arranged about the rotational axis and at a location upstream of the combustion section, with the vanes having a pressure side and a suction side. The engine further includes a cooling conduit extending from upstream of the combustion section to downstream of the combustion section, with an inlet located on the suction side of at least one of the vanes which allows cooling air to enter the inlet and is directed through the cooling conduit for cooling.

Abstract: A turbine engine that includes a compressor section configured to receive particle-laden fluid and to at least partially compress the particle-laden fluid, and a primary fluid passageway fluidly coupled with the compressor section and including opposing first and second walls where the primary fluid passageway receives the particle-laden fluid that is compressed by the compressor section. One or more bleed holes in the first wall or the second wall fluidly couple the primary fluid passageway with an auxiliary flow passageway. At least one separator body is disposed in and extends along the primary fluid passageway. A support device couples to a portion of the at least one separator body.

Abstract: A particle separator includes a separator body in a primary fluid passageway of a machine. The primary fluid passageway includes one or more bleed holes through which a diverted portion of the fluid flowing in the primary fluid passageway toward a volume of the machine is diverted into an auxiliary flow passageway that bypasses the volume and directs the diverted portion of the fluid toward one or more other components of the machine. The separator body is coupled with the inner wall and/or outer wall of the primary fluid passageway. The separator body includes an upstream edge positioned to separate at least some particles carried by the fluid from the fluid as the diverted portion of the fluid bends around and flows over the at least one upstream edge of the separator body and into the auxiliary flow passageway.

Abstract: Gas turbine engine components are provided which utilize an insert to provide cooling air along a cooled surface of an engine component. The insert provides cooling holes or apertures which face the cool side surface of the engine component and direct cooling air onto that cool side surface. The apertures may be formed in arrays and directed at an oblique or a non-orthogonal angle to the surface of the insert and may be at an angle to the surface of the engine component being cooled. An engine component assembly is provided with counterflow impingement cooling, comprising an engine component cooling surface having a cooling fluid flow path on one side and a second component adjacent to the first component. The second component may have a plurality of openings forming an array wherein the openings extend through the second component at a non-orthogonal angle to the surface of the second component.

Abstract: The battery cell design includes a battery cell component comprises a current conducting element, that includes at least a portion that is hollow, further component is configured to be located within a battery cell. Another embodiment of the component comprises a first element that defines a first fluid path therein; and a second element that defines a second fluid path, wherein the two fluid paths are in communication with each other, further wherein the battery cell component is configured to conduct electric current. A battery cell and battery cell assembly that uses the component, and a method of cooling a battery assembly is also disclosed.
