An image processing apparatus comprises: an acquisition unit to acquire screen information related to whether or not an operation screen accepts an input by a gesture operation; a retrieval unit to retrieve, from screen information associated with a plurality of screen configuration patterns applicable to the operation screen, the screen information which coincides with the screen information acquired by the acquisition unit; a determining unit to determine the screen configuration pattern to be applied to the operation screen, based on the screen information retrieved by the retrieval unit; and an applying unit to apply a display rule of a screen element defined by the screen configuration pattern determined by the determining unit to a display screen of the operation screen, whereby a user can easily acknowledge whether or not to be able to perform the gesture operation on the screen on which the user intends to perform an operation.

An image forming apparatus which is capable of reducing time and effort for a user in setting a size of an irregular-size sheet. Width information indicative of a width of a sheet set by the user is stored in a storage unit. A width of the sheet held by a sheet holding unit that holds the sheet is detected. From the width information stored in the storage unit, candidates for a size of the sheet are extracted based on the detected width of the sheet. The extracted candidates for a size of the sheet are displayed on a display. A size of the sheet selected by the user from among the displayed candidates for a size of the sheet is set as a size of the sheet held by the sheet holding unit.
