    Abstract: Disclosed are techniques for a multimedia device with audio and video capturing capability to identify an audio device based on acoustic playback signal if the audio device cannot be identified from captured video. The multimedia device may assemble a list of candidate audio devices that are a possible match for the observed audio device from a database of previously recognized audio devices and may transmit commands to the candidate audio devices to play acoustic identification signals. The acoustic identification signals may be audible sound or ultrasonic tone sequences with embedded identification information unique to each audio device. The multimedia device may record and analyze the acoustic identification signals received from any of the candidate audio devices to construct metrics to select the most likely candidate for the observed audio device. The metrics may include time of flight, direction of arrival, received amplitude, direct-to-reverberant ratio (DRR) of the acoustic identification signals.

    Abstract: Channels of audio data in a spatial audio object are associated with any one or more of a direction and a location of one or more recorded sounds, which channels are to be reproduced as spatial sound. A visualized spatial sound object represents a snapshot/thumbnail of the spatial sound. To preview the spatial sound (by experiencing its snapshot or thumbnail), a user manipulates the orientation of the visualized spatial sound object, and a weighted downmix of the channels is rendered for output as a spatial preview sound, e.g., a single output audio signal is provided to a spatial audio renderer; one or more of the channels that are oriented toward the user are emphasized in the preview sound, more than channels that are oriented away from the user. Other aspects are also described and claimed.

The device obtains an audio signal, obtains, using one or more microphones, a microphone signal that includes audio of an environment in which the electronic device is located. The device determines a context of the device, and selects a volume compensation model from several models based on the determined context. The device processes the audio signal according to the selected volume compensation model and the microphone signal, and uses the processed audio signal to drive one or more speakers of the device.

    Abstract: A system including an audio source device having a first microphone and a first speaker for directing sound into an environment in which the audio source device is located and a wireless audio receiver device having a second microphone and a second speaker for directing sound into a user's ear. The audio source device is configured to 1) capture, using the first microphone, speech of the user as a first audio signal, 2) reduce noise in the first audio signal to produce a speech signal, and 3) drive the first speaker with the speech signal. The wireless audio receiver device is configured to 1) capture, using the second microphone, a reproduction of the speech produced by the first speaker as a second audio signal and 2) drive the second speaker with the second audio signal to output the reproduction of the speech.
