摘要: An irrigation system is disclosed having a pipe and a continuous tape of irrigation emitters that is affixed to an inside surface of the pipe and extends along its length. The pipe includes a plurality of fluid outlet ports, with one output port for each emitter in the tape. Each emitter includes a base member that is affixed to the inner surface of the pipe to create an enclosed fluid flow channel between the inner surface of the pipe and the base member. For each emitter, the fluid flow channel extends from a fluid inlet port, though filtering, flow regulation and collection sections, and to one of the fluid outlet ports formed in the pipe. The flow regulation section is formed as a labyrinth path and established which reduces the deposition of particles in the emitter which can reduce flow and/or clog the emitter.

摘要: A pressure compensating drip emitter for controlling fluid flow through a hole in an irrigation line includes an enclosing sidewall that has two ends, surrounds a volume, and is formed with an internal ledge between the ends to support an elastomeric membrane. A pressure-reducing fluid passageway that is formed as a labyrinth is provided that includes an outer, annular portion that is in fluid communication with an emitter inlet and an inner annular portion that is in fluid communication with an emitter outlet. The membrane is deformable between a first low-pressure membrane configuration which allows fluid to bypass the inner annular portion in flowing from the outer portion to the outlet. In a second high-pressure membrane configuration, the deformed membrane covers the inner fluid passageway forcing the fluid to flow through both the outer and inner fluid passageway portions.

摘要: A system for transporting a plurality of digital signals (i.e. “n” digital signals) over an optical fiber includes a plurality of modems for modulating each digital signal on a respective analog signal. Each resulting RF signal is processed by a corresponding up-convertor, which includes a mixer and local oscillator, to produce a frequency band which can be a double sideband or single sideband of the modulated signal. The resulting frequency bands output by the up-convertors are non-overlapping and are spaced apart within a single sub-octave. An RF combiner combines the frequency bands and the combined RF signal is converted into an optical signal by an optical transmitter that outputs to an optical fiber. An optical receiver converts the optical signal from the fiber to an RF signal that is directed to an RF splitter. Signal fractions from the splitter are filtered, down-converted and demodulated to recover the initial digital signals.

摘要: A system and a method for its use are provided to cool a cryotip at the distal end of a probe for a cryosurgical procedure. In particular, the cryotip is cooled by a liquid refrigerant to cryogenic temperatures in order to perform a cryosurgical procedure on biological tissue. The system is closed-loop, and during transit of the liquid refrigerant through the entire system, the liquid refrigerant always remains in a liquid state at a relatively low pressure.

摘要: A system for advancing a needle through a vasculature to an injection site at the heart of a patient includes a guide catheter with a reflective distal tip. Also included is an imaging unit that is mounted on the catheter to radiate an energy field. Structurally, a distal portion of the catheter is biased to bend into a predetermined configuration that will position the distal end of the catheter for interception by the energy field. If necessary, coincidence of the reflective tip with the energy field is established by moving the energy field along the length of the guide catheter. With coincidence, the reflective tip reflects a signal that is useful for advancement of the needle from the guide catheter and into the injection site.

摘要: A system and method for altering the shape of a lamina of transparent material (e.g. the cornea of an eye), as it is being subjected to a transverse pressure differential, requires a computer controlled laser unit. In accordance with specified input parameters, the computer directs the laser unit to perform LIOB over predetermined surfaces within the lamina. This weakens the material for a desired reshaping of the lamina in response to the pressure differential. With respect to a perpendicular axis that is defined by the lamina, surfaces parallel to the axis (e.g. cylindrical surfaces) are separated from each other by about two hundred microns. For surfaces perpendicular to the axis, the separation is about ten microns. In each instance, the cuts that result from LIOB are only about two microns thick.

摘要: A system and method to compensate for the deformation of an eye requires calculation of an induced deformation angle Ψ, wherein the deformation is intentionally induced during laser surgery by a contact lens, and a refraction angle φ. Specifically, during laser surgery, the cornea of an eye is typically stabilized by a contact lens. This deforms the cornea. When the contact lens is removed after the surgery, the cornea recovers from the deformation. For the present invention, the angle Ψ is calculated, and corrected by the angle φ, so that surfaces altered during surgery (e.g. by LIOB) will become substantially parallel to incoming light in the eye, after the contact lens has been removed after surgery.

摘要: A system and method are provided for moving a vehicle along a roadway. The system includes at least one power segment that incorporates a multiple-phase winding. Structurally, the winding is embedded into the roadway for interaction with a magnet system mounted on the vehicle. With this interaction, a Linear Synchronous Motor (LSM) is established between the roadway and the vehicle to drive movement of the vehicle along the roadway. Also, the vehicle includes a mechanism for initially synchronizing a waveform speed of the multiple-phase winding with the speed of the vehicle. Further, the vehicle is able to selectively establish the LSM for use when desired.
