Abstract: In one embodiment, a supervisory service for a software-defined wide area network (SD-WAN) obtains telemetry data from one or more edge devices in the SD-WAN. The service trains, using the telemetry data as training data, a machine learning-based model to predict tunnel failures in the SD-WAN. The service receives feedback from the one or more edge devices regarding failure predictions made by the trained machine learning-based model. The service retrains the machine learning-based model, based on the received feedback.

Abstract: In one embodiment, a network element in a network receives one or more machine learning models configured to make an inference about the network. The network element requests, according to a predefined peering plan, telemetry attribute data from one or more peer network elements specified by the peering plan. The network element receives the telemetry attribute data from the one or more peer network elements. The network element makes, using the one or more machine learning models, an inference about the network based in part on the received telemetry attribute data.

Abstract: In one embodiment, a device obtains data indicative of quality of experience for an online application. The device predicts, based on the data, path performances of network paths between an endpoint and the online application for different traffic loads. The device selects traffic loads for the network paths between the endpoint and the online application, based on the path performances predicted by the device. The device causes application traffic to be load balanced across the network paths between the endpoint and the online application, in accordance with those traffic loads selected by the device.

Abstract: In one embodiment, a device obtains metadata for routing decisions made by a predictive routing service for a plurality of network deployments. The device identifies a network topology for a network deployment that does not use the predictive routing service. The device estimates, based on the metadata for routing decisions made by the predictive routing service, performance metrics for the predictive routing service were it to be used to make routing decisions for the network topology. The device sends, to a user interface, report data indicative of the performance metrics estimated for the predictive routing service were it to be used to make routing decisions for the network topology.

Abstract: In one embodiment, a device obtains user experience metrics for a plurality of sessions with an online application. The device detects a plurality of anomalies from among the user experience metrics. The device determines, based on a correlation between the plurality of anomalies, that a particular path entity is a root cause of the plurality of anomalies. The particular path entity comprises an egress service provider or data center of the online application. The device provides an indication of the particular path entity being the root cause of the plurality of anomalies.

Abstract: In one embodiment, a service identifies a set of attributes associated with a first machine learning model trained to make an inference about a computer network. The service obtains labels for each of the set of attributes, each label indicating whether its corresponding attribute is a probable cause of the inference. The service maps input features of the first machine learning model to those attributes in the set of attributes that were labeled as probable causes of the inference. The service generates a second machine learning model in part by using the mapped attributes to form a set of input features for the second machine learning model, whereby the input features of the first machine learning model and the input features of the second machine learning model differ.

Abstract: In one embodiment, a controller obtains data indicative of an application experience metric for an online application having application traffic conveyed via the network. The controller predicts the application experience metric that would result from a first edge router conveying its application traffic to the online application via a second edge router that is not currently connected to the first edge router via a tunnel, based on the obtained data. The controller makes a determination that the first edge router should route its application traffic to the online application via a tunnel between the first edge router and the second edge router, based on the predicted application experience metric. The controller causes a tunnel to be established in the network between the first edge router and the second edge router, whereby the first edge router routes its application traffic to the online application via the second edge router.

Abstract: In one embodiment, a device predicts a failure of a first tunnel in a software-defined wide area network (SD-WAN). The device determines that no backup tunnel for the first tunnel exists in the SD-WAN that can satisfy one or more service level agreements (SLAs) of traffic on the first tunnel, were the traffic rerouted from the first tunnel onto that tunnel. The device predicts, using a machine learning model, that a backup tunnel for the first tunnel exists in the SD-WAN that can satisfy an SLA of a subset of the traffic on the first tunnel, in response to determining that no backup tunnel exists in the SD-WAN that can satisfy the one or more SLAs of the traffic on the first tunnel. The device proactively reroutes the subset of the traffic on the first tunnel onto the backup tunnel, in advance of the predicted failure of the first tunnel.

Abstract: In one embodiment, a device identifies a set of probes configured between a first endpoint and a second endpoint serving an online application. Each probe has one or more characteristics and is associated with a different segment between the endpoints. The device selects a subset of the set whose associated segments are along a plurality of paths between the endpoints, based on a match between the online application and the one or more characteristics of probes in the set of probes. The device approximates a performance metric for each of the plurality of paths by aggregating performance metrics measured by probes in the subset of probes that are associated with segments of that path. The device causes traffic to be routed between the endpoints via a particular path in the plurality of paths, based on the performance metric of the particular path.
