Abstract:
An electronic device includes a receptacle for communicating information via a first communication circuit and a second communication circuit different from the first communication circuit, the receptacle including a plurality of electrically conductive contacts having a predefined arrangement. The electronic device further includes a detection circuit and a configuration circuit. The detection circuit is operatively coupled to at least one of the plurality of contacts, and the detection circuit is operative to detect an electrical state of the at least one contact. The configuration circuit is operatively coupled to a first group of contacts of the plurality of contacts, and the configuration circuit is operative to communicatively couple the first group of contacts to the first communication circuit or the second communication circuit based on the detected state of the at least one contact.
Abstract:
A media power protection system comprises a media controller configured to detect a type of media card coupled to a multi-card connector, and a protection circuit configured to selectively enable at least one of a plurality of power supply interfaces of the multi-card connector based on the type of media card.
Abstract:
Methods and arrangements to adapt an electronic system to attenuate electrostatic discharges of a cable as the cable is connected with a connector on the electronic system are disclosed. Embodiments may include an adapter to couple with a connector of an electronic system. The adapter may momentarily interconnect conductors of a cable with a selected conductor of the connecter to discharge to attenuate or discharge an electrostatic charge built up on the conductors of the cable. In some embodiments, the adapter includes a selector switch so the selected conductor can be selected based upon the electronic system. In other embodiments, the selected conductor is fixed.
Abstract:
A telecommunications apparatus for use with a plug having at least first, second and third pins. The telecommunications apparatus includes a plug connector for receiving the plug. The plug connector includes at least first, second and third electrical contacts for electrically contacting the first, second and third pins, respectively, when the plug is inserted in the plug connector. The plug connector also includes an electrical by-pass pathway that: i) electrically connects the first and second electrical contacts when the plug is fully removed from the plug connector such that a signal can enter the plug connector through the first contact, pass through the by-pass pathway to the second contact, and exit the plug connector through the second contact; and ii) does not electrically connect the first and second electrical contacts when the plug is fully inserted within the plug connector such that a signal can enter the plug connector through the first contact, pass through the plug to the second contact, and exit the plug connector through the second contact.
Abstract:
A switching coaxial jack has at least first, second, and third coaxial center conductors, a switch, and a cam. The switch has a first position that electrically couples the first and second center conductors to one another and a second position that electrically couples the first and third center conductors to one another. A cam is responsive to a plug inserted into the jack to apply a lateral force against the plug and/or to operate the switch between its first and second positions.

Abstract:
AC module makers must prepare two types of AC modules for the 100-V and 200-V outputs only for domestic supply. For foreign countries, the makers must manufacture AC modules compatible with more system voltages. To solve these problems, the control circuit of an AC module controls the operation of an inverter circuit and/or the transformation ratio of a transforming circuit, and ON/OFF-controls a switch on the basis of the system voltage and connection state of an electric power system.
Abstract:
Automatic recognition of the type of memory within a device package by using strap resistors within the device package. Such recognition enables a processor, such as a GPU, to automatically configure itself to work with the memory. A device package includes a strap contact and a bit input that are electrically connected. The device package beneficially contains a processor (such a GPU) that is operatively connected to the bit input, and a memory device that is operatively connected to the processor. By selectively inserting a strap resistor the voltage applied to the bit input changes state. That state can be read and used to set up the system.
