Abstract: Generally, the described techniques provide for a base station transmitting an indication of a set of one or more available channels to a user equipment (UE). The base station may transmit to the UE a first downlink burst using a first channel and a first frame period. In some cases, the base station may detect interference associated with the first downlink burst, for example, by performing a listen-before-talk (LBT) procedure or through an interference management resources (IMR) procedure in which the base station transmits reference signal signals to the UE that the UE may use to return a report on measured interference. If the base station detects interference, the base station may transmit to the UE an instruction to switch to a second channel and a second frame period, where the second channel may be selected from the set of one or more available channels.

Abstract: Various aspects described herein relate to techniques for synchronization signal transmissions in wireless communications (e.g., 5th Generation New Radio). In an aspect, a method includes detecting that a medium in a shared spectrum is busy, and delaying a transmission of a synchronization signal (SS) block in the shared spectrum in response to detecting that the medium is busy. The method further includes detecting that the previously busy medium is free, and transmitting, in response to detecting that the medium is free, a filler signal before transmitting the SS block in the shared spectrum, and the SS block includes one or more discovery reference signals (DRSs).

Abstract: Methods, systems, and devices for wireless communication are described. The described techniques provide for transmission of uplink data from a user equipment (UE) in the absence of scheduled uplink resources for the uplink data transmission that are allocated to the UE prior to the transmission of the uplink data. Various examples provide frame structures that may be used for unscheduled uplink transmissions of a UE. Unscheduled uplink transmissions may be transmitted in a shared or unlicensed radio frequency spectrum, and access to the shared or unlicensed radio frequency spectrum may be determined based on a priority of an operator associated with a UE for accessing the spectrum. Beamforming techniques may be used for uplink and downlink transmissions and beam widths for beamformed transmissions may be selected based on the information transmitted in a transmission, an operator priority for use of shared radio frequency spectrum, or any combination thereof.

The base station may determine a contention exempt transmission (CET) period for the shared spectrum band and transmit the DRS using multiple transmission beams during CET period or the base station may perform a listen before talk (LBT) procedure, and transmit, based on the LBT procedure, the DRS over a shared radio frequency spectrum band. The base station may transmit an indication of the type of DRS transmission, a subframe offset, random access configurations, and/or error correcting codes to enable a user equipment to discover, connect to, and acquire timing information associated with the network.

Abstract: Apparatus and methods of wireless communications are described for determining one or more bands (e.g., guard bands in wireless local area networks (WLANs)) in unused portions of an unlicensed spectrum, positioning one or more carriers for cellular communication (e.g., long term evolution (LTE) or LTE advanced communication) in the one or more bands, and performing the cellular communication over the unlicensed spectrum using the one or more carriers. In some non-limiting example aspects, the cellular communication may be in a standalone mode and the one or more carriers may include a primary component carrier (PCC) that is positioned in a Wi-Fi guard band. In these non-limiting example aspects, the apparatus and methods may further include allocating one or more secondary component carriers (SCCs) in Wi-Fi guard bands or in Wi-Fi channels, where the one or more SCCs are opportunistically tuned or turned ON/OFF based on cell loading or backhaul constraints.
