A method of pumping a viscous medium includes pumping the viscous medium by maintaining a constant differential pressure across a rolling seal diaphragm independent of discharge pressure of the viscous medium, with the diaphragm disposed between the viscous medium and a working medium and being driven by a piston.

    摘要: A hydraulically driven pump includes a diaphragm, a piston, a transfer chamber, a fluid reservoir, and a spool member. The transfer chamber is defined between the diaphragm and piston and is filled with a hydraulic fluid. The fluid reservoir is in fluid communication with the transfer chamber via at least one valve. The spool member is configured to control fluid flow between the transfer chamber and the fluid reservoir. The spool member is movable to open and close an opening into the at least one valve only when an overfill condition or an underfill condition exists in the transfer chamber.

    摘要: An air driven hydraulic pump includes two opposed cylinders to either side of a center section. Two pneumatic pistons are slidable in the opposed cylinders and are coupled with one another by a common shaft extending through the center section. The pneumatic pistons ride in the opposed pneumatic cylinders and include hydraulic plungers extending therefrom. Cylinder heads integral with the cylinders provide hydraulic cylinders aligned with the hydraulic plungers. An air valve delivers pneumatic pressure to alternate sides of both pneumatic pistons such that the forces on the pistons are additive alternately in each direction.

The membrane is penetrable by an injection needle to add hydraulic fluid to or withdraw hydraulic fluid from the chamber, in order to calibrate the amount of fluid, and the membrane is self-sealing to seal the hole which is formed in the membrane by the penetrating injection needle. The implant typically is a hydraulic constriction device, which can be designed for treating reflux disease, urinary incontinence, impotence, anal incontinence or obesity.

One embodiment of the fluid driven pump may include first and second diaphragms supported within a housing assembly such that first and second fluidtight expansion chambers are defined within the housing. The pump may have a first exhaust valve movably supported in a first exhaust valve cavity in fluid communication with the first expansion chamber and an exhaust port in the housing assembly. In addition, the pump may have a second exhaust valve movably supported in a second exhaust valve cavity in fluid communication with the second expansion chamber and the exhaust port. A flow control system may be supported by the housing assembly and be couplable to a source of pressurized control fluid. The flow control system may control flow of pressurized fluid into and out of the first and second expansion chambers such that pressurized fluid entering the first expansion chamber flows through a first passage in the housing assembly independent from a first exhaust passage which connects the first exhaust valve cavity to the first expansion chamber and such that pressurized fluid entering the second expansion chamber flows through a second passage in the housing assembly independent from a second exhaust passage connecting the second exhaust valve cavity to the second expansion chamber.

    摘要: An air driven double diaphragm pump including two opposed pump chambers with an air motor having air chambers therebetween. The pump chambers and air chambers form pumping cavities divided by diaphragms. Each pump chamber includes an inlet ball valve and outlet ball valve. An inlet manifold is positioned below the pump chambers and an outlet manifold above. Tie-rods extend both across the pump from one pump chamber to the other with nuts to place the assembly in compression. Tie-rods also extend from the outlet manifold through the pump chambers, to the inlet manifold and to feet mounted therebelow. Two plates, one to either side of the air motor extend to grooves in the inlet and outlet manifold and also extend to grooves in the pump chambers so as to close of the side of the pump structure. With the plates, an outlet manifold is provided from which air may be exhausted remotely. The ball valves include small diametrical clearance and a limitation on lift for added performance. The ball valves also include seats which are sealed with the components of the pump through the use of O-rings and surfaces polished to 10R.sub.A. Belleville washers relieve thermal stresses on the tie-rods. Integrally molded diaphragms include an annular sheet about a hub. A semi-circular corrugation about the periphery provides for attachment to the pump while a cylindrical flange mates with a boss on the respective pump chamber. A stud is molded as an insert into the diaphragm. The pullout failure rate of the stud is empirically established by appropriate sizes of circumferential ribs and hub thickness to be higher than the rupture rate for the annular sheet.
