摘要: In the use of composite materials for a coiled tubing for downhole use, precise external tubular dimension and durable wear surface become a critical factor because of the potential for damage to the external surface as the tubing passes through the stripper assembly at the wellhead which is provided to control high pressures within the well. An infuser arranged within the stripper provides lubrication for the passage of the composite tubing through the sealing members within the stripper and also infuses fluids into microfissures and cracks naturally occurring on the surface of the composite tubing to fill the voids and thereby enhance the structural integrity of the tubing.

摘要: A tubular mandrel is provided as a sleeve around the portion of the rod string polish rod extending through the stuffing box housing. The mandrel is coupled to the polish rod so that they rotate together. Bearings stabilize the mandrel within the housing. Stationary rotary seal means are provided in the housing to seal against the now-stabilized mandrel. Leakage and seal wear are improved when compared with the prior art approach of using compressed packing in direct contact with the polish rod to provide the rotary seal.

摘要: A rotating blowout preventor having at least two rotating stripper rubber seals which provide a continuous seal about a drilling string having drilling string components of varying diameter. A stationary bowl is designed to support a blowout preventor bearing assembly and receives a swivel ball that cooperates with the bowl to self-align the blowout preventor bearing assembly and the swivel ball with respect to the fixed bowl. Chilled water is circulated through the seal boxes of the blowout preventor bearing assembly and liquid such as water is pumped into the bearing assembly annulus between the stripper rubbers to offset well pressure on the stripper rubbers. Lubricant is pumped into shaft bearings and serves to prolong the life of shaft. pressure seals by offsetting well pressure against the shaft pressure seals and clamp mechanisms are used to tighten the stripper rubbers on the respective mounting elements in the bearing assembly and swivel ball. A method for sealing a drilling string at the surface of a well, which method includes the steps of mounting a rotating blowout preventor having at least two sealing stripper rubbers on the well casing or other equipment connected to the well casing, in swiveling relationship, inserting a drilling string through the rotating blowout preventor and stripper rubbers, introducing a liquid into the rotating blowout preventor, circulating water around certain pressure seals and application of hydraulic pressure on the stripper rubbers and pressure seals to offset well pressure exerted against the stripper rubbers and pressure seals.

摘要: A leakproof seal arrangement is disclosed for use in the drivehead of a downhole rotary pump, which pump is operated by a drive string suspended from the drivehead for rotation in a production tubing about a longitudinal axis, the drivehead having a bore in fluid communication and coaxial with the production tubing and sized to permit the passage of a polished rod attached to a top end of the drive string. The seal arrangement includes a centralizer sleeve for receiving a portion of the polished rod; a bearing for rotatably supporting the centralizer sleeve in the drivehead coaxial with the bore, whereby an annular gap is created between the centralizer sleeve and an opposite, cylindrical wall of the drivehead which gap is in fluid communication with the production tubing. The seal arrangement further includes a centering packing for sealingly and concentrically connecting the centralizer sleeve with the polished rod for simultaneous rotation about the longitudinal axis. The centering packing is sufficiently elastic to accommodate wobble of the polished rod in the centralizer sleeve while preventing leakage of a pumped liquid present in the production tubing and the centralizer sleeve during operation of the pump. The seal arrangement also includes an annular drivehead seal for sealing the annular gap which is also filled with the pumped liquid during operation of the pump, to substantially prevent leakage of the pumped liquid from the drivehead. With this seal arrangement, polished rod wobble compensation and sliding sealing of the drivehead are carried out at separate locations in the drivehead which results in a more reliable seal and reduced stress on the seal materials used and provides the seal with an extended service period.

摘要: A stripper/packer for use in a stack at a well head provides horizontal actuation and side access. This configuration enables maintenance of the packer in place. It also provides for the retraction of the packer to a diameter greater than the inside diameter of the packer to permit the withdrawal of coiled tubing with accessories attached. A hydraulically actuated rod has a pusher plate attached at one end with bushings and bushing carriers attached thereto. The bushings and bushing carriers hold a packer element in abutting relation to an energizer which evenly distributes pressure from the pusher plate to the packer element. The bushings and bushing carriers also hold the packer element so that, upon retraction of the rod, the entire assembly is withdrawn from the bore of the stripper/packer.

Annular packing is disposed within the interior of the stationary housing to provide a fluid seal. The cylindrical rotating housing has an exterior, an interior, a first end and a second end. The exterior has a neck portion adjacent the second end. The neck is adapted to engage the inner circumference of the inner race of the bearing disposed at the first end of the stationary housing. The inner race of the bearing rotates with the rotating housing. Annular packing is disposed within the interior of the rotating housing to provide a fluid seal.

摘要: A spill preventing device for use on a tubular portion of a well head is provided. The device has at least two sections forming an open-topped container with a bottom, the container being of a size to receive spills around the well. The container sections have a central opening in the bottom of the container of a size to fit around a tubular portion of a well head. An upstanding centrally located cylindrical flange is provided to fit around the tubular member. The flange is formed with upwardly extending walls from the container sections, which are releasably connected together to form the flange. A splash suppression assembly is positioned in the open-topped container to prevent liquid from splashing out. The splash suppression assembly has a plurality of rings mounted above the bottom of the container. The rings are concentrically positioned about the central cylindrical flange.

摘要: A system for maintaining an optimum pressure balance within an inner chamber of a drilling head for improved seal life and integrity. The system maintains a pressure differential across the seals thereby preventing well fluids from contaminating the seals and improving their useful life. The drive ring of a drilling head is rotatably supported by a series of bearings disposed within a bearing chamber. The secondary chamber of the drilling head is sealed to prevent contaminants from entering the chamber and fouling the seals. The seals withstand the borehole well pressures to prevent the introduction of contaminants, by maintaining a pressure differential across the seals. The present system compensates for variations in the borehole pressure. A pressure compensator is in communication with the borehole to activate a lubricant pump for increasing lubricant pressure within the inner chamber in response to increased borehole pressures. A relief valve associated with the inner chamber relieves pressure in the seal chamber to maintain lubricant pressure at optimum levels when borehole pressure decreases for controlled operation of the seals. Additional check valves are included in the inner chamber to control the chamber pressure while preventing contamination of the lubricant.
