Abstract: A video decoder chipset (200, 300, 400, 500) comprises a video decoder function (210), an upscaler function (230) and a combiner function (240). The video decoder function (210) is configured to (i) decode encoded video data to generate decoded video data at a first level of quality, the encoded video data having been derived by an encoder using first video data at a second, higher level of quality and (ii) output the decoded video data for storage in a memory (220). The upscaler function (230) is configured to (i) obtain the decoded video data from the memory (220) and (ii) upscale the obtained decoded video data to generate second video data at the second level of quality. The combiner function (240) is configured to (i) obtain residual data, the residual data having been derived by the encoder based on the first video data and the second video data, (ii) combine the second video data with the residual data to generate enhanced video data, and (iii) output the enhanced video data.

Abstract: The invention relates to a method and apparatus for image compression, particularly to an improved block-coding apparatus and method for image compression. Image compression systems such as JPEG and JPEG2000 are known and popular standards for image compression. Many of the advantageous features of JPEG2000 derive from the use of the EBCOT algorithm (Embedded Block-Coding with Optimized Truncation). One drawback of the JPEG2000 standards is computational complexity. This application discloses a relatively fast block-coding algorithm, particularly as compared with the standard JPEG2000 EBCOT algorithm. Computational complexity is reduced.

Abstract: Methods and systems for executing games are provided. One example method includes executing at a server of the gaming system a first game logic and a second game logic. The first game logic is for a first game stream to a first user and the second game logic is for a second game stream to a second user. The method includes providing a first virtual driver for the first game logic and a second virtual driver for the second game logic. The method includes executing a hardware graphical processing unit (GPU). The hardware GPU having a non-virtual driver that communicates with each of the first and second virtual drivers. The non-virtual driver is configured for receiving data associated with the first game and the second game using the first virtual driver and the second virtual driver, respectively. The hardware GPU is configured for rendering video frames for the first game and the second game. The method includes encoding the video frames for the first game and the second game using an encoder. The encoded video frames including the first and second game streams to devices of the first and second users connected to the gaming system over a network.

Abstract: Provided are systems, methods, and computer-readable medium for encoding and decoding video data. In various examples, a coding device can include multiple luma QP and chroma QP relationship tables. In performing quantization or inverse quantization one video data being encoded or decoded, respectively, the coding device can select a table. The table can be selected based on, for example, a slice type, a prediction mode, and/or a luminance value, among other factors. The coding device can then use the luma QP value to look up a chroma QP value from the table. The luma QP and chroma QP values can then be used in quantization or inverse quantization.

Abstract: A method of converting 10-bit pixel data (e.g. 10:10:10:2 data) into 8-bit pixel data involves converting the 10-bit values to 7-bits or 8-bits and generating error values for each of the converted values. Two of the 8-bit output channels comprise a combination of a converted 7-bit value and one of the bits from the fourth input channel. A third 8-bit output channel comprises the converted 8-bit value and the fourth 8-bit output channel comprises the error values. In various examples, the bits of the error values may be interleaved when they are packed into the fourth output channel.

Abstract: A framework for estimating image interpretability degradation associated with image compression is provided. An image compression broker system can determine an image compression setting to achieve an interpretability task in accordance with available communication bandwidth or transmission time objectives. Estimating image interpretability degradation includes detecting edge points of an uncompressed image and determining gradients corresponding to the detected edge points; compressing in accordance with a compression parameter setting the uncompressed image to generate a compressed image and determining gradients corresponding to the edge points in the compressed image; determining from the gradients associated with the edge points gradient ratios; and estimating from the gradient ratios an image interpretability loss of the compressed image.
