The process may further include converting hydrogen sulfide by the Claus reaction 2H2S+SO23/xSx+2H2O, and decomposing polysulfanes to hydrogen sulfide and sulfur, wherein elemental sulfur is freed from hydrogen sulfide.

    摘要: The present invention provides a process for the selective oxidation of hydrogen sulphide contained in a hydrogen sulphide-containing hydrocarbon feed gas to elemental sulphur. The hydrogen sulphide-containing hydrocarbon feed gas and a sulphur dioxide-containing gas are supplied to a reaction zone containing a TiO2-comprising catalyst, wherein elemental sulphur and a gaseous stream depleted in hydrogen sulphide are formed. The gas feeds are contacted with the TiO2 containing catalyst at elevated pressure and at a temperature in the range of from 120 and below 160 ° C., under such conditions that the elemental sulphur formed is essentially in liquid form. At least part of the sulphur dioxide-containing gas is obtained by combusting elemental sulphur to obtain a gaseous mixture of sulphur dioxide and nitrogen and then concentrating the gaseous mixture to provide the sulphur dioxide-containing gas.

A liquid stream yielded from the catalytic zone and containing the inert liquid medium and liquid elemental sulfur undergoes a separation into a first liquid phase rich in the inert liquid medium and a second liquid phase rich in elemental sulfur. Either at least a part of the liquid stream or at least a part of the second liquid phase, or both, undergoes a combustion to form a fluid stream that comprises sulfur dioxide.

    摘要: The present invention comprises a method of treating an off-gas stream from a refining process to remove sulfur compounds. A portion of the off-gas stream containing hydrogen sulfide is injected at the front end of the thermal reactor and in at least one other location downstream of the thermal reactor. A ratio of hydrogen sulfide to sulfur dioxide at the outlet of the thermal reactor is less than the stoichiometric requirement. The ratio is adjusted downstream of the thermal reactor so that a ratio of hydrogen sulfide to sulfur dioxide is maintained substantially in excess of the stoichiometric requirement for a Claus reaction. The tail gas, containing hydrogen sulfide but virtually no sulfur dioxide, is treated by a process including removal of water and introducing sulfur dioxide into the tail gas in a stoichiometricly balanced quantity and processing the tail gas in a Claus reactor.

A stream of liquid sulfur containing polysulfides and hydrogen sulfide and a stream of an oxidizing gas are introduced into a vessel and intimately mixed to provide intimate contact between the two streams. The streams are passed through the vessel at a pressure of at least about 40 psig and at a temperature and for a residence time sufficient to remove substantially all of the polysulfides and hydrogen sulfide from the liquid sulfur.

    摘要: Process for removing sulfur compounds contained in a residual gas with recovery of said compounds in the form of sulfur, wherein a gas obtained from a residual gas containing H.sub.2 S and SO.sub.2 and having a temperature lower than 160.degree. C. is subjected to a catalytic CLAUS reaction phase with deposition of sulfur on the catalyst and periodic regeneration of the sulfur-laden catalyst and cooling of the regenerated catalyst. The gas brought in contact with the CLAUS catalyst is produced by subjecting the residual gas to a hydrogenation and hydrolysis treatment to provide the sulfur compounds in the unique form of H.sub.2 S and to cooling with water separation by condensation and then to catalytic oxidation of H.sub.2 S in CLAUS stoichiometry with cooling of the gas stream obtained from the oxidation step under 160.degree.
