Abstract: A method and apparatus for recognizing a user's grip state using a Touch Screen Panel (TSP) sensor in an electronic device are provided. The method for recognizing the user's grip state in the electronic device includes the processes of detecting a hovering input generated by a user's grip through a self-capacitive or mutual-capacitive touch screen, and determining the user's grip state in accordance with the detected hovering input.
