Abstract: A video display device includes: a video receiver that receives video data including a video and dynamic luminance characteristics indicating a time-dependent change in luminance characteristics of the video; a tone mapping processor that, in the case where a luminance region having a luminance less than or equal to a first luminance is defined as a low luminance region, and a luminance region having a luminance exceeding the first luminance is defined as a high luminance region, (i) performs first tone mapping using first conversion characteristics when first luminance characteristics exceed a predetermined threshold value, and (ii) performs second tone mapping using second conversion characteristics when the first luminance characteristics are less than or equal to the predetermined threshold value.

Abstract: A video display apparatus includes: a tone mapping processor that performs a tone mapping process of converting a luminance of a video by using conversion characteristics according to a maximum luminance of the video; and a display that displays the video that has undergone the tone mapping process. The tone mapping processor switches between a first tone mapping process of dynamically changing the conversion characteristics according to a time-dependent change in the maximum luminance of the video and a second tone mapping process that is performed using constant conversion characteristics irrespective of the time-dependent change in the maximum luminance of the video.

Abstract: A connector includes a receptacle connectable to the conventional plug being compliant with an HDMI specification, and a plug connectable to the receptacle. The receptacle includes a tubular body forming a holding space that enables insertion of the conventional plug, a first recessed part forming a space that narrows heading from the holding space in an insertion direction of the plug, and a first transmission body having, as an end of an optical transmission line, a first end that is disposed to be exposed to the inserted plug. The plug includes an insertion part shaped to be insertable into the tubular body, a first projection that projects from the insertion part in the insertion direction and can fit into the first recessed part, and a second transmission body having, as an end of an optical transmission line, a second end that is disposed to face the first end.

Abstract: A luminance characteristics generation method includes: determining, for each of frames included in a video, a value as first luminance characteristics, the value being obtained by dividing the number of pixels having luminances less than or equal to a first luminance among all pixels included in the frame by the number of all the pixels included in the frame; and outputting the first luminance characteristics determined in the determining of the value.

Abstract: An AV signal transmission and receiving system capable of appropriately receiving an AV signal includes a source apparatus and a sink apparatus connected to the source apparatus via an HDMI (registered trademark) cable. The sink apparatus includes: an AV signal receiving unit which receives an AV signal via the HDMI cable; a memory which holds the EDID; a rewriting unit which rewrites the EDID; an HPD control unit which controls output of an HPD signal; and a determining unit which: determines whether the AV signal which has been received is an HDMI signal conforming to an HDMI standard or a digital visual interface (DVI) signal; and when the determining unit determines that the AV signal is a DVI signal, instructs the rewriting unit to rewrite the EDID and instructs the HPD control unit to output the HPD signal indicating that reading of the EDID which has been rewritten is possible.

Abstract: A cable assembly includes a cable, a connector that is provided at an end of the cable in a direction in which the cable extends, a plurality of electric transmission lines configured to transmit an electric signal, and a plurality of optical transmission lines configured to transmit an optical signal. Abstract: A video display system includes: a tone mapping processor; a display; and a metadata processor that generates first dynamic metadata that indicates a maximum luminance that is constant over a plurality of time intervals by using static metadata. The video display system switches between: a first operation of (i) generating the first dynamic metadata by using the static metadata, performed by the metadata processor and (ii) performing the tone mapping process by using the first dynamic metadata, performed by the tone mapping processor; and a second operation of performing the tone mapping process by using second dynamic metadata in which the maximum luminance varies over the plurality of time intervals, performed by the tone mapping processor.
