Abstract: A device including forceps having first and second working arms, a blade, and an arm securing mechanism having an electromagnetic latch. Distal ends of the first and second arms are biased toward each other by a first force when the electromagnetic latch is energized. The device is switchable between a first configuration where the distal ends of the arms are biased away from each other and the blade is proximal to the distal ends of the arms; a second configuration where the distal ends of the arms are biased toward each other by the first force and the blade is proximal to the distal ends of the arms; and a third configuration where the distal ends of the arms are biased toward each other by the first force and the blade is substantially flush with or extends beyond the distal ends of the arms.

Abstract: A surgical device comprising: (a) a stylet comprising: one or more support rods; (b) a hand piece comprising: one or more housing structures defining a cavity; and one or more actuating mechanisms comprising: one or more levers attached to one or more pivot axes in the hand piece and configured to form one or more slidable joints in communication with the one or more support rods; wherein the one or more levers are configured to be assembled by: being placed into the hand piece along the assembly direction before the stylet so the stylet may be placed into the hand piece over the one or more levers; or being placed into the hand piece along the assembly direction after the stylet so the one or more levers is placed into the hand piece over the stylet and in communication with the stylet.

Abstract: An electrosurgical device comprising: forceps including: (i) a first working arm and (ii) a second working arm; a blade; wherein the electrosurgical device is capable of being switched between: (A) a first mechanical configuration where the first working arm and second working arm are free to move in a direction towards each other to grasp tissue therebetween; (B) a second mechanical configuration where the first working arm and second working arm are secured together by an arm securing mechanism that prevents movement of the first working arm and the second working arm in a direction towards each other; and (C) a third mechanical configuration where the first working arm and second working arm are secured together so that the first working arm and the second working arm are prevented from moving in a direction towards each other, and the blade is substantially flush with or extend beyond a distal end of the first working arm and the second working arm; and wherein the electrosurgical device is configured to: deliver a bipolar current between the first working arm and the second working arm, and to prevent current from flowing from the blade when the electrosurgical device is in the first mechanical configuration and the second mechanical configuration; and deliver current through the blade when the electrosurgical device is in the third mechanical configuration.

Abstract: A surgical device includes a forceps and a blade. The forceps includes a first working jaw and a second working jaw. The blade extends along a longitudinal axis and includes a notched section. The blade is located between the first working jaw and the second working jaw. A first therapy current can be connected to the first working jaw, the second working jaw, or both so that tissue gripped between the first working jaw and the second working jaw and within the notched section can be coagulated. While the tissue is gripped between the first working jaw and the second working jaw, the blade is moveable along its longitudinal axis so that the tissue is cut with the notched section without repositioning the first working jaw, the second working jaw, or both.
