Abstract: In one embodiment, a controller instructs agent processes to monitor for instances of particular types of interactions, each defined by a type of context entity within an interaction instance and one or both of a type of head entity sourcing an interaction instance and a type of tail entity as a destination of an interaction instance. The controller may then receive interaction objects from plurality of agent processes, each containing an identification of a respective interaction instance matching one of particular types of interactions, each respective interaction instance identifying, as components of each respective interaction instance, a particular context entity and one or both of a particular head entity and a particular tail entity. The controller may then index the components of each respective interaction instance, establish relationships between the indexed components according to each respective interaction instance, store the indexed components and established relationships, and generate reports based thereon.

Abstract: In one embodiment, a device receives, from a monitoring agent that monitors an application, an indication that the monitoring agent did not capture information regarding a particular event during execution of the application. The device determines that the particular event is of a relevant event type that should be tracked. The device generates a configuration for the monitoring agent that adjusts a monitoring scope of the monitoring agent so as to capture information regarding the particular event. The device causes the monitoring agent to be updated with the configuration, wherein the monitoring agent captures information regarding the particular event after being updated with the configuration.

Abstract: In one embodiment, information (workload, performance, and configuration) is obtained about identified sub-systems (a target component plus other components that influence its performance). The identified sub-systems are clustered into workload clusters and also into performance clusters, where identified sub-systems of particular workload clusters have similar workload measurements, and identified sub-systems of particular performance clusters have similar performance metrics. The techniques herein then determine a given mapped performance cluster for a given workload cluster that corresponds to a best set of performance metrics from among all performance clusters mapped to the given workload cluster. A configuration change recommendation is then generated for a given identified sub-system of the given workload cluster that is not within the given mapped performance cluster corresponding to the best set of performance metrics based on configuration information about each identified sub-system within the given mapped performance cluster that corresponds to the best set of performance metrics.
