Abstract: Systems, methods, and mechanisms for preemption of non-low latency data within an aggregated medium access control (MAC) protocol data unit (AMPDU), e.g., such as in current and future IEEE 802.11 systems. A wireless device (e.g., an access point or wireless station) may transmit, during an AMPDU, a trigger to receive (TRX) frame. The TRX frame may indicate preemption of non-low latency data intended for a first wireless station with low latency data intended for a second wireless station, e.g., via an acknowledgement policy change. Additionally, the wireless device may be configured to transmit, to the second wireless station, the low latency data within the AMPDU. Further, the wireless device may be configured to receive, after the AMPDU transmission is complete, a multi-block acknowledgement (M-BA) frame from the second wireless station. The M-BA frame and completion of the AMPDU transmission are separated by a short inter-frame space (SIFS).

Abstract: Payload transmission of multiple stations on a single resource unit may be performed. New and/or updated signaling may be introduced to enable a transmitter, e.g., an access point (AP), to include information/signaling in the preamble or in other frames. A receiver (e.g., a wireless station) that receives this information/signaling may accordingly determine in which RU it should decode to receive its allocated data or payload, allowing multiple receivers or STAs to share a single resource unit (RU). The new/updated signaling may include modified hybrid downlink multiuser signaling in Ultra High Reliability Signal (UHR-SIG), a group association identifier (gAID), a predefined special AID corresponding to an RU with use of a Bloom filter, multiple predefined special AIDs each corresponding to a non-overlapping group of wireless stations, and/or signaling announcing time sharing of single RUs.

Abstract: An electronic device (such as an access point) that receives a modified response frame is described. During operation, an interface circuit in the electronic device may provide a trigger frame addressed to a second electronic device, where the trigger frame includes a trigger-frame variant that is compatible with an IEEE 802.11 standard (such as IEEE 802.11ax or a subsequent IEEE 802.11 standard). Then, the interface circuit may receive a modified response frame associated with the second electronic device, where the modified response frame is different from a response frame associated with the trigger frame specified by the IEEE 802.11 standard. When the second electronic device indicates support for the modified response frame during association with the electronic device, the interface circuit may define parameters associated with the modified response frame in an association response.

Abstract: An electronic device (such as an access point) that receives a modified response frame is described. During operation, an interface circuit in the electronic device may provide a management frame addressed to a second electronic device. Then, the interface circuit may provide a trigger frame addressed to the second electronic device, where the trigger frame includes a trigger-frame variant that is compatible with an IEEE 802.11 standard. Next, the interface circuit may receive a modified response frame associated with the second electronic device, where the modified response frame is different from a response frame associated with the trigger frame specified by the IEEE 802.11 standard, and modifications to the modified response frame are specified in the management frame.

Abstract: This disclosure relates to methods for communicating aggregated physical layer protocol data units in a wireless local area network. An aggregated physical layer protocol data unit that includes multiple physical layer protocol data units may be transmitted, which may occupy a frequency channel that includes a primary subchannel and a secondary subchannel. A physical layer protocol data unit may be transmitted on the primary subchannel to a wireless device with smaller bandwidth capability than the bandwidth occupied by the aggregated physical layer protocol data unit, and another physical layer protocol data unit having the same or a different physical layer protocol data unit format may be transmitted on the secondary subchannel to an enhanced multi-link single radio secondary channel or dynamic subband operation capable wireless device with smaller bandwidth capability than the bandwidth occupied by the aggregated physical layer protocol data unit.

Abstract: A method for transmitting a high priority (HP) packet from a first wireless device to a second wireless device is described. The method includes determining the presence of an HP packet for uplink transmission; determining that a communications link that uses a wireless medium for transmitting the HP packet is busy; generating a preemption request message in a frame; and transmitting the frame with the preemption request message to the second wireless device. The first wireless device can receive from the second wireless device an indication that the preemption request was accepted, such as by receiving a trigger frame with resource allocation for transmitting the HP packet or an indication of the end of a contention free period, to allow the first wireless device to contend for channel access to transmit the HP packet.
