Abstract: Technologies are provided for backing virtualization containers with layered storage volumes stored in remote storage devices. A virtualization container can present a virtual storage volume to a process running in the virtualization container and handle data access requests from the process using a layered storage volume based on one or more read-only snapshots stored in one or more remote storage devices. Changes can be recorded in a read-write layer in one or more of the remote storage devices and associated with the layered storage volume. A new read-only snapshot can be created based on the data in the read-write storage layer and associated with the one or more read-only snapshots on which the layered storage volume is based. A virtualization container can be associated with a new layered storage volume based on the created read-only snapshot and the one or more read-only snapshots on which it is based.

Abstract: The present document describes systems and methods for collecting and distributing information associated with distributed tasks. The information is collected using task definition templates which are provided to a computing resource management service. The task definition templates include substitution elements that act as placeholders for desired information. The values associated with the substitution elements are collected by the computing resource management service, and by agents that maintain access to the task computing environment. Various substitution elements are populated when an associated task is scheduled, assigned to a computing resource, started, completed, or removed from the system. The information is made available via an application programming interface, thereby enabling coordination between tasks as well as overall application management.

Abstract: An application is comprised of a plurality of processes. A process is able to accesses a remote service using a service access credential which is adapted to the particular requirements of the process. By providing a process with customized credential, the process is constrained from performing unnecessary operations, and the overall security of the application is improved. When processes are deployed to a host computer, an agent on a host computer collects credential information and other metadata associated with the processes running on the host computer. The agent makes the metadata available to a credential provider running on the host, and the credential provider exposes an interface that is accessible to the processes. The processes include a credential proxy which communicates with the credential provider. The credential proxies relay credential requests to the credential provider, and return the provided credentials from the credential provider to the processes.

Abstract: Disclosed are various embodiments relating to the creation, tracking, and modification of electronic messages that may become obsolete or irrelevant to the message recipient after a specific time or occurrence of an event. Upon detection of an event, the message may be altered so that the message recipient is not burdened by obsolete or irrelevant messages. The alteration may include moving to another folder, changing the appearance, deletion, and/or any other alteration that would reflect that the message is longer valid.
