Abstract: Technology is described for configuring data communication schedules for devices. A computing hub in a wireless network may determine a data communication schedule for a device in the wireless network. The data communication schedule may include an assigned time slot for the device to communicate with the computing hub. The data communication schedule with the assigned time slot may be provided from the computing hub to the device. The device may be instructed to wake up from a reduced power mode and enter into an active mode during the assigned time slot defined in the data communication schedule. The computing hub may prioritize data communication for the device during the assigned time slot defined in the data communication schedule and when the device is in the active mode.

Abstract: Systems and methods are described for remotely configuring a coordinator within a coordinated environment, which coordinator can execute code to manage operation of a set of coordinated devices. A client can submit configuration information to a deployment system, including permissions indicating what data resources each set of code should have access to on the coordinator. The deployment system can remotely, and independently of configuration of the coordinator and in a manner that does not conflict with local configuration of the coordinator, determine filesystem permissions that divide access to the data resources among the sets of code. The deployment system can build a directory structure with the permissions and deploy the structure to the coordinator. The coordinator can locally generate directory structure, adopt the permissions, and execute the code to enforce the client-specified permissions.

Abstract: A method for removing computing assets from service in a provider network includes receiving, from a requestor, identification for selected ones of the computing assets requested to be removed from service. Each of the computing assets is a computing device or a slot of a computing device. A pool in which each of the computing assets requested to be removed from service is located is identified. For each identified pool: which of the computing assets requested to be removed from service is approved for removal from service is determined based on a number of resource instances available for allocation to users after the computing devices are removed from service exceeding a predetermined number of resource instances. The requestor is notified as to which of the computing assets is approved for removal from service.

Abstract: A technology is described for distributed querying of computing hubs for device-generated data. In one example, computing hubs may provide a storage service to devices included in a local device network, and the devices may send device-generated data to the computing hubs to be stored by the storage service. A distributed query may be initiated by identifying the computing hubs that have the device-generated data stored on the computing hubs and sending a message containing query instructions to the computing hubs. The query instructions, when executed on the computing hubs, retrieve the device-generated data from the storage service included on the computing hubs, and the computing hubs may send the device-generated data to a service provider environment.

Abstract: A client network implements data locality-aware MapReduce using IoT devices. An IoT service of a provider network receives configuration settings from a user to implement map nodes and reduce nodes at the client network. Each map node is configured to receive its own locality-based partition of data from one or more data sources (e.g., sensors) that are within a map function data locality (e.g., a particular location of the network). Each map node then processes the locality-based partition of the data, generates results, and sends the results to a reduce node. The reduce node may be located at a remote provider network. A coordinator node may also be deployed to one or more devices of the client network. If a map node or a compute node becomes overloaded, the coordinator node may redirect some data to a map node or a reduce node of a remote provider network.

Abstract: A system includes one or more computer systems that include one or more processors and memory. The memory includes instructions, that, upon being executed by the one or more processors, cause the system to generate forecast demand data for a first pool of servers configured to host virtual machine instances, generate forecast capacity data that forecasts a number of slots available to run virtual machine instances for the first pool of servers, and generate a first pool health index value based on a comparison of the forecast demand data with the forecast capacity data.
