Utilizing a scrollbar handle for both zooming and panning a display comprising items in a user interface may be accomplished by monitoring an input device's interaction with the scrollbar handle. If the scroll handle is dragged in a direction away from an orientation of the scroll handle in the scrollbar, a display area zoom function can be activated. The zoom function allows a viewbox, comprising content, to be rescaled as a function of the distance the scroll handle is dragged. A displaybox can be created that distinguishes an area of the viewbox from the remainder of the display, which corresponds to content in the viewbox that would be displayed in normal zoom if the scroll handle were released at that location. Further, upon detecting that the scroll handle is released, the display area can zoom to a view of the content inside the distinguished area.
Abstract:
User-defined search vertical control over the presentation of search results in search results user interfaces is provided. Users may create and save search macros that are capable of modifying a search engine to perform searches and present results according to user specifications. A search macro defines both search operators for specifying search aspects and user interface operators for specifying features of the search results user interface. When entering a search query, a user may select a search macro. The search engine is modified based on the operators of the selected search macro, and search results are presented in a search results user interface in accordance with use interface operators defined by the selected search macro.

The subject disclosure pertains to an architecture that maximizes revenue of a website. In particular, the hyperlink structure between the web pages of a website can be designed to maximize the revenue generated from traffic on the website. That is, the set of hyperlinks placed on web pages is optimized by selecting hyperlinks that are most likely to generate the optimal revenue. Hyperlinks can be placed on web pages according to various criteria or variable values in order to create an optimized web page that generates the maximum revenue for the website.

The present invention provides methods and systems for allowing transactions in instruments relating to term-based concepts in a networked computer system. Concepts may be defined as a set of terms, such as words or phrases, that relate to a theme. The terms are useable in computerized searches. The set of terms may be determined manually, using a computer algorithm, or both. Concepts are valued, such as by a measure of advertising value. Instruments include concept futures as well as bets. Concept-based instruments can be used, for example, as hedging tools, speculating tools, market forecasting tools, or data generating tools.

In one implementation a method for disambiguation of search phrases is provided, which may include identifying interpretation clusters using bidded search terms of content providers and influencing a position of a search result in a search results list based on the interpretation clusters. The search results list may be provided in response to a search query received by a searcher for review by the searcher. In one implementation a method is provided for interpretation clustering, which may include identifying terms and associated content providers and calculating a matrix from the identified terms and associated content providers. Similarity scores between content providers based on the matrix are calculated and interpretation clusters are assigned using the similarity scores. Bidded search terms and/or searcher clickthrough terms may be used. In one implementation, a method is provided for increasing the relevance of search results, which may include receiving a search query and identifying the search query as ambiguous. It may include clustering a plurality of search results for the search query into interpretation clusters and generating a search results list based on the interpretation clusters. The clustering of search results may include using bidded data, and/or using clickthrough data. In some implementations, search results from different interpretation clusters may be interleaved when generating the search results list.

A method for providing search results to a user is disclosed. The method includes receiving a first set of information associated with a plurality of web pages. A second set of information associated with a user preference, determining a commercial score for each web page is also received. A subset of the first set of information is determined based on the second set of information. A visual indicator for the subset of the first set of information is generated in accordance with a commercial score, and the subset and the visual indicator are displayed on a display.
