A display unit displays, on the first display screen, a captured image generated by a image capturing unit. A transmission unit transmits the captured image to an external apparatus, the external apparatus being configured to display the captured image on a second display screen and detect a position that has been designated by the user on the second display screen. An obtaining unit configured to obtain, from the detection unit or the external apparatus, position information based on the position designated by the user. A selection unit selects a partial region of the captured image based on the position information if the position designated by the user is within an effective range.
