The light irradiation unit includes a plurality of the light emitting element rows arranged therein. When the fault detection unit detects a fault in a light emitting element, operation enters a fault mode where the light emitting element row to which the faulty light emitting element belongs is turned off and recording is performed with the remaining light emitting element rows.
