The first pixel electrode is formed on the first substrate. The second pixel electrode overlaps with at least a part of the pixel electrode with the first insulating layer interposed therebetween. The second pixel electrode has a plurality of elongated openings and applies a voltage to the liquid crystal layer that is different from the voltage the first pixel electrode applies to the liquid crystal layer.
