The recording unit records the information in a recording medium in accordance with the write current. A temperature detecting unit detects an ambient temperature of the recording medium. A timer monitors time for the temperature detecting unit to detect the ambient temperature of the recording medium at predetermined times. A write-current setting unit sets the write current for the ambient temperature of the recording medium detected by the temperature detecting unit, each time when the temperature detecting unit detects the ambient temperature of the recording medium, the time being obtained from the timer.
