Production of substituted 1,2-dihydroquinolines by reacting aromatic amines with isopropenyl alkyl ethers of the general formula
where R is alkyl having 1-5 carbon atoms, in the presence of a Lewis acid as catalyst, in a neutral organic solvent which contains no active groups.
