In a joint for a conveyer or driving belt of rubber or the like having longitudinal reinforcing wires cut in steps to abut endwise, two adjacent wires with blind ends are adjacent one or more rows of abutting wires coming from different directions, one wire from one direction overlapping another wire from the other direction. The wires may deviate from their longitudinal direction within the belt to produce substantially equal gaps between adjacent wires and the abutments may be within or without the overlap of the joint and may be transverse to the belt, staggered or sloping. Examples are given of different configurations of the wires according to the invention. The joint may be made by baring the wire ends, securing them in the desired position on a rubber base with adhesive, causing the joint with another rubber plate and curing the joint.
