A clothes dryer filter assembly for a clothes dryer includes a bottom portion configured to be coupled to an exhaust conduit, a center portion coupled to the bottom portion, and a top portion coupled to the center portion. The center portion is positioned between the bottom and top portions. The assembly includes a turbulence generator positioned within the bottom portion configured to generate turbulent airflow from air received from the exhaust of the clothes dryer. In addition, a lint filter is hingedly positioned within the center portion and downstream of the turbulence generator. The lint filter is configured to swing at least partially open in response to pressure from the turbulent air flow being blocked by lint trapped on the lint filter. The assembly includes an air deflector positioned within the bottom portion to direct an air flow to a side of the bottom portion.
